Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Xperia Z/ZL/ZR/Tablet Z Coming in May
KitKat update expected towards next month-end
The Android 4.4.2 KitKat software update will be released for Xperia Z series devices next month.
Sony issued Android 4.4.2 firmware with UI optimisation and performance tweaks for Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact last month. Along with the rollout, Sony confirmed that it would release a similar upgrade for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z sometime in the middle of second quarter this year.
Now the company has changed the software update status for each of the aforementioned Xpera Z devices with the next version of update as Android 4.4.2. Besides, the software page suggests the KitKat update is coming in May, but there is no word on a definite date.
Meanwhile, the Xperiablog claims the rollout will commence towards the end of next month rather than in the beginning.
Last December, Sony announced the availability of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware with build number 10.4.B.0.569 for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z.
The update integrates a number of improvements including new Smart Camera app like Xperia Z1, new keyboard with one-hand keyboard setting and white UI similar to Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra Android 4.3 update and new Xperia wallpapers like Xperia 1. One of the key features is the Restricted Profile settings in Xperia Tablet Z.
