On the occasion of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, which marks 60 years of her reign as Head of State of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms, an exhibition of 60 press photographs is on show at Windsor Castle.
"The Queen: 60 Photographs for 60 Years" includes the work of leading press photographers and presents a portrait of her reign as captured in fleeting moments on official occasions and at relaxed family gatherings.
These photographs have been taken around the United Kingdom, some depicting the Queen's personal involvement in the life of the nation through her many regional visits. Apart from this, some other pictures are from overseas trips, including a visit to Mexico in 1975, another to the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu in 1982, a third to India in 1983 and recently to Canada in 2010.
The note on the Royal Collection Web site also speaks of photographers recording the Queen pursuing personal interests in off-duty moments... particularly her life-long love of equestrianism.
Also included in this collection of iconic images are two photographs from the 1960s. One in which the Queen and members of the Royal Family are seen watching competitors at the Badminton Horse Trials and another, taken in 1962, when Her Majesty was captured photographing the action herself.
