Ferdinand Not The Only One Showing Giggs Love

Ryan Giggs has admitted he is concerned about the possibility of retiring too early and making sure he leaves on a high, as the 38 year old takes in the fact that he has signed a one year extension at Manchester United.

"When to retire is difficult," he told the Telegraph.

"Do you quit too early or go that one too many games and let people see you on the slide? Retirement is just a decision that I have to take my time with because I feel different after each game.

"He [Scholes] was missing it and it's no secret that me, Nev [Gary Neville] and a few other people felt that he had finished too early, but who were we to know?

"We wanted him to carry on but he'd made his decision quite early and it was probably too early, which I think he accepts now. Who knows? Maybe he'll carry on next year."

But the star's current and former teammates, and manager, think that Giggs should be around for a while longer yet, and many have rallied behind the midfielder who is coming close to making 900 appearances for United in total.

Rio Ferdinand (United defender)

"He has been blessed with a tremendous physique," he said.

"He is not carrying any weight, he's not had any serious injuries and he manages himself really well.

"To have that many appearances at one club is phenomenal. Words can't describe how great that is. There is no reduction in his talent. He is still one of the better players in training.

"In the games, he's one of the best too. He can play on both sides of the pitch and in midfield.

"That tells you he is not getting in because of who he is or what he's done, he's getting in the team on merit."

Javier Hernandez (United striker)

"Ryan is a great player. He is a legend here. He is a very good example for football players all over the world, not only those at this club.

"We are delighted about it. Of course you learn from him. It doesn't matter that I'm a striker and he isn't."

"Ryan is a marvellous player. In many ways, he epitomises all my teams here at United; he has constantly re-invented himself, adapted to the changing nature of the game and retained that desire and hunger for success.

"I don't know how he does ii. It is a miracle. His form this season has been the same as the last five or six. His fitness has been incredible and his appetite to play is just the same. We are all delighted."
