2012 Milan Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana’s Baroque Romanticism [SLIDESHOW]

The mood was one of opulence and luxury at the Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter 2012 show at the Milan Fashion Week as designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana displayed a collection of delicate lace creations, golden embroideries and rich velvet designs.

Coined "baroque romanticism," the collection drew its inspiration from the tradition of Sicilian Baroque, which has evolved in volumes and processes, experimenting in new cuts and decorations. Each creation was a reflection of intricate workmanship and detailing that, at times, appeared to have come out of a painting.

The collection also featured prints of cherubs and angels and embroideries made of small points inspired by dining room tapestries.

The Independent reported that severe but sumptuous black wool capes and dresses were encrusted with crosses and curlicues picked out in golden thread, mirrored beads and paillettes that recalled picture frames. Tooled silk and jacquard dresses, cherub-printed, tapestry blouses and sheer corsets complete with golden panniers will no doubt come in at a suitably princely sum.

One of the most dominant themes apparent in the collection was lace. Apart from this, there were delicate, transparent corsets and white knickerbockers, velvet hot pants as well as floral print creations.

The show attracted a lot of celebrities and high-profile individuals like British actress Helen Mirren, actress Monica Bellucci, Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor, Chinese actress Gao Yuan Yuan, Marica Pellegrinelli and Bianca Brandolini D'Adda.
