Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he is an admirer of Germany forward Marco Reus.

The Gunners boss is presently working for French TV station TF1, as a football pundit for Euro 2012, and was full of praise for Reus, after watching him score from a powerful volley as Joachim Low's side beat Greece 4-2 to advance to the semi finals of Euro 2012. And according to the Daily Star, when asked by fellow analyst Bixente Lizarazu if he was "On the case", Wenger replied, "Yes".

Reus was in sublime form for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga last season and notched up 21 goals and 10 assists from 37 appearances in all competitions.

However, any expression of interest from Wenger has come a little too late. An ESPN report states the 23 year old agreed, in January, to sign for Borussia Dortmund for the 2012/13 campaign. The Bundesliga champions paid Monchengladbach £14.5mn and agreed a five year contract with the player. The terms of the deal saw Reus remain, on loan, with Monchengladbach for the remainder of last season. In addition, the fact Dortmund sold Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United recently makes it even more unlikely they will allow Reus to leave.

Incidentally, Reus was reportedly also a target for Bayern Munich but the club backed off after being advised to do so by German international (and club player) Bastian Schweinsteiger. Another report on ESPN said Schweinsteiger, whose position could have been threatened by Reus' arrival, offered Dortmund's Mario Goetze as an alternative.

Meanwhile, Reus' compatriot Lukas Podolski claimed he was ready to score plenty of goals for new club Arsenal next season. The former Cologne star, who signed for the Gunners earlier this summer, stated he was looking forward to his time in north London.

"I know Wenger has been at the tournament [Euro 2012], so maybe I will see him at the semi final. I'm looking forward to next season. I think I'm going to score a lot of goals for Arsenal and I have to say I'm proud to play for them. It's a great team with a great coach, great fans and great stadium. For me, it's a very good move. I already speak some English so I don't think it's going to be difficult for me to settle in. I'm looking forward to it. But, first, I have a job to do here with Germany," Goal.com quoted the 27 year old as saying.

Germany will face Italy in the second semi final on Thursday, with Reus battling for a spot in the starting line-up at the expense of Podolski or Bayern's Thomas Muller.
