Strong Earthquake with 7.5 Magnitude Hits Off North of Japan, Near Russia
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 has struck off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island near the eastern coast of Russia, said the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake was recorded as 7.3 magnitude by the Japan Meteorological Agency and occurred at 11:59 AM local time (4:00 BST).
The tremor was recorded at a depth of around 625.9 km (388.9 miles) below the earth's surface in the Sea of Okhotsk.
No damage has been reported so far and Japanese authorities have not issued any tsunami warning.
