How to Root Galaxy Note N7000 Running on Official Android 4.1.2 DXLSE Jelly Bean [GUIDE]

Samsung has pushed out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software update with build version DXLSE for the first generation Galaxy Note with model number N7000. The DXLSE Jelly Bean is an unbranded version of firmware and bundles several new features such as multi-view, buttery smooth performance, enhanced notification panel, Smart Rotation, Page Buddy, new Notification Bar and Google Now.

Galaxy Note users who have already upgraded their devices with the latest official release may follow our step-by-step guide below to root the same.

The method below uses CWM recovery packages, released by XDA developer Phil3759, to root the Galaxy Note. Head over to the source page to learn more about the Recovery zip files and their uses. The key feature of the root files is that users do not have to install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery separately since the package will install it.

Below are two different methods to root the Galaxy Note: one is to root the Note using stock recovery and the other to root using Odin. Users may follow any of these methods.

Pre-requisites

1) Install USB Driver for Galaxy Note on the computer.

2) Enable USB Debugging Mode. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and ensure the USB Debugging Mode is turned on.]

3) Create a backup of all data of the device.

4) The phone should be factory unlocked.

5) Ensure that the battery of the Galaxy Note has more than 80 per cent of charge.

6) The phone will lose manufacturer's warranty once it is rooted, but users can regain the warranty by unrooting the device.

7) The root method below is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 running on Android 4.1.2 DXLSE Jelly Bean; applying the method on incorrect variant might brick the device.

Steps to root Galaxy Note N7000 on Android 4.1.2 DXLSE via stock recovery

1) Download PhilZ-cwm6-DXLSE-OLB-4.91.2-signed.zip for the Galaxy Note to the computer

2) Connect the Note to the computer using USB cable and copy the downloaded zip file to the external SD card of the device

3) Disconnect the phone from the computer and switch it off. Now boot the device into stock recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together

4) Using the Volume keys navigate to and select 'apply update from external storage' then brose to the 'PhilZ-cwm6-DXLSE-OLB-4.91.2-signed.zip file' which is saved on the external SD card

5) Select the zip file by pressing the Power button and confirm installation

6) After the installation process is completed, select 'reboot system now' from the recovery menu to reboot the phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 is now successfully rooted on Android 4.1.2 DXLSE Jelly Bean with CWM recovery installed.

Steps to root Galaxy Note N7000 on Android 4.1.2 DXLSE Jelly Bean using Odin

1) Download root kernel N7000DXLSE for the Galaxy Note to the computer

2) Download Odin v1.85 which will help to root the Jelly Bean firmware

3) Turn off the Note and place the device into Download Mode. Press and hold Volume Down + Home buttons together, then press the Power button until the construction Android robot and a triangle appears. Now press the Power button again to confirm to enter into Download Mode

4) Open Odin on the computer

5) Plug in the USB cable to the phone to connect it with the computer while the device is in the Download Mode. When the device is connected successfully, one of the ID: COM boxes will turn yellow with the COM port number. This step is likely to take some time

6) In Odin, click on the 'PDA' button and select the 'Philz-cwm6-DXLSE-OLB-4.91.2.tar.md5'

7) Verify that the 'Auto Reboot' and 'F Reset Time' options are selected in Odin

8) Double check everything and click the 'Start' button in Odin to being installation. The process will take about a few minutes

9) Upon the competition of the installation process, the phone will restart automatically. Unplug the USB cable from the phone once the home screen appears

Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 running on Android 4.1.2 DXLSE Jelly Bean is now rooted successfully. Open the app drawer of the device and check for an app called Superuser from the list.
