Overview

Dortmund lost their Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich over the weekend; the phenomenal Bavarians have secured their championship in record time and they, like Dortmund, will now turn their attention to the Champions League tie against Juventus, scheduled for Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp's men come into this game after a hard-fought 4-2 home win over FC Augsburg on Saturday. A goal each from Robert Lewandowski, Neven Subotic and a brace from Julian Schieber were enough for all three points. The win, although ultimately meaningless in the league, will give the side confidence ahead of this game.

They don't really appear to need that though. Dortmund have progressed to the latter stages of the tournament after qualifying from the Group of Death (with Real Madrid, Ajax and Manchester City) and beating Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the first knock-out round.

Dortmund have won three of the last five games, in all competitions, with the only defeat coming in the league at Schalke 04. Ominously for Malaga, the Germans have scored 15 goals in their last four games at home and conceded only four in return.

Meanwhile, Champions League debutants Malaga continue a dream run in the tournament. They qualified for the knock-out stages by winning their group (with AC Milan, Zenit St Petersburg and Anderlecht for company) and beating former champions FC Porto in the earlier round.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have had off-field problems though, of a financial nature. And the resultant UEFA Financial Fair Play (FFP) sanctions mean they will not be allowed in European football next season, no matter what the league finish or even if they win the Champions League this season.

That will hardly matter to the players though; the dream of actually winning European football's most prized trophy is enough of a reason to push on. The Spaniards were hammered 4-2 by Real Sociedad in their weekend fixture but it was not exactly a full-strength side that played at the Anoeta on Saturday.

Malaga have won only twice in the last five games; this will worry Pellegrini. The good news, though, is his side have scored five times in the last two away games.

Defender Mats Hummels is likely to return after sitting out the weekend game. However, Polish winger Jakub Blaszczykowski will probably miss out. Kevin Grosskreutz will be the most likely replacement. Sven Bender may be preferred in midfield to Sebastian Kehl, alongside the excellent Ilkay Gundogan.

The Spanish club will be without Brazilian Welington and key midfielder Manuel Iturra, who will serve one-match suspensions. However, young playmaker Isco is fit and ready he will be an important part of any success Malaga hope to enjoy in Germany. Expect key players like Jeremy Toulalan, Joaquin and former Madrid forward Julio Baptista to also have roles to play. Argentine striker and another ex-Madrid player, Javier Saviola, will lead the attack.
