Nexus 4 Gets Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update via CyanogenMod 10.1 M3 ROM [How to Install]

Nexus 4 users can now enjoy the latest custom build of Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) update, thanks to the release of CyanogenMod 10.1 Milestone 3 (CM10.1 M3) ROM. The latest CM10.1 M3 release brings a host of bug-fixes and several new features over its previous iteration.

It is reportedly the most stable variant of all the nightly builds released since CM10.1 M2 release. The third iteration of CyanogenMod 10.1 Milestone (M3) release promises to offer improved stability, better Google services, enhanced keyboard functionality and many such optimisations. As this is a custom release, the firmware installation requires a custom recovery tool such as ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP to be installed on the handset.

Key Points to Note

• CyanogenMod 10.1 M3 ROM and the instructions provided in this guide are meant for the LG Nexus 4 model only. It will not work on any other device. Verify the device's model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
• Verify if correct USB drivers are installed for the phone on computer (download LG Nexus 4 USB drivers).

• Ensure the phone is factory unlocked (not locked to a specific carrier) and rooted with CWM recovery installed.
• Make sure the device has at least 85 percent battery charge to prevent unexpected device shutdown (due to battery drain) during firmware installation.
• The phone will not be recognised by Samsung KIES after installing this ROM, as it is a custom firmware.
• Do a Dalvik Cache Wipe before continuing from recovery mode.

How to Install Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update on LG Nexus 4 via CyanogenMod 10.1 M3 ROM

Step 1 - Download Android 4.2.2 CM10.1 M3 ROM and Google Apps for Nexus 4 on the computer.

Step 2 - Connect and mount the Nexus 4 USB mass storage on computer with USB cable.

Step 3 - Copy the downloaded CM10.1 ROM and Google Apps zip files to the root folder on the phone's SD card.

Step 4 - Switch off the phone and disconnect its USB cable from computer.

Step 5 - Boot the device into Bootloader Mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons together.

Step 6 - Follow the onscreen navigational instructions and select Bootloader option to enter Recovery mode

Step 7 - Once the device enters ClockworkMod Recovery, do a full data wipe by choosing Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Use Volume keys to navigate between options and Power button to select an option in Recovery Mode.

Step 8 - Perform Wipe Cache Partition and wait until the process completes.

Step 9 - Perform Wipe Dalvik Cache from 'advanced' option in CWM recovery. This will help prevent boot loop issues and boot ROM errors during firmware installation.

Step 10 - Return to the main recovery menu and click Install Zip from SD card.

Step 11 - Click Choose Zip from SD card. Use volume keys to navigate to CM10.1 ROM zip file that you copied earlier to the phone's SD card and choose it by tapping the Power button. Confirm the ROM installation on the next screen and the installation process will begin.

NOTE: Repeat the Step 11 for installing Google Apps as well.

Step 12 - Once both the ROM and Google Apps are installed, hit "+++++Go Back+++++" and tap Reboot System Now in the recovery menu. The phone will now reboot and the first boot may take about five minutes to complete. So, please be patient.

Your Nexus 4 is now running on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean based CyanogenMod 10.1 M3 ROM. Go to Settings > About Phone to verify the same.
