Rooting Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5110 on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Firmware [Tutorial]

Followed by the market release of the international Wi-Fi version of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 launched with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the manufacturer has been releasing several software updates for the same.

Those, who have updated their Galaxy Note 8.0 to latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean official build, may follow our step-by-step guide to root the same using CF-Auto-Root package.

The CF-Auot-Root, released by recognsied XDA developer Chainfire, is said to be the safest root method available so far. The main feature of the root package is it is firmware independent. Pre-requisites

1) Install USB Driver for Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 to transfer files from the Android device to the computer.

2) Enable USB Debugging Mode on the tablet to connect it with the computer and use Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option then verify the USB Debugging Mode.]

3) As the tutorial is likely to wipe all data of the tablet, create a backup for the same. If the device is having any custom recoveries such as ClockworkMod/TWRP already installed then backup data using the recovery.

4) The tablet should have above 80 per cent of battery charge.

5) The Galaxy Note 8.0 should be factory unlocked and not locked to a particular carrier.

6) The device will lose manufacturer's warranty once it is rooted. Users can reclaim the warranty back by unrooting the device later.

7) The CF-Auto-Root file is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5110. Applying this on any incorrect variant will brick the device. Therefore, verify the model number of the Galaxy device by navigating to Settings>> About tablet>> Model number.

Steps to root Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5110 on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Step-1: Download CF-Auto-Root package for Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 to the computer

File name: CF-Auto-Root-konawifi-konawifixx-gtn5110.zip

Step-2: Extract the downloaded root zip using winrar/7zip/winzip or any other extracting tool to get a file with .tar.md5 extension

Step-3: Download Odin3 v3.07. Extract the Odin zip to get Odin3 v3.07.exe with some other files

Step-4: Turn off the Galaxy Note and wait for about five to six seconds for the vibration to confirm complete power off

Step-5: Boot the tablet into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home buttons together and then press the Power button until the device turns on. Now press the Volume Up button to continue to enter into Download Mode

Step-6: Run the Odin3 v3.07.exe as an Administrator

Step-7: Connect the Galaxy device to the computer using USB cable while it is in the Download Mode. Wait for some time until Odin detects the device. When the device is connected successfully, the ID: COM box in Odin will turn yellow with the COM port number. Additionally, the successful connection will be indicated by a message saying Added under Odin.

Note: If the Added message does not come then try another USB port, try the one located at the back side of the computer. If Odin still fails to recognise the device then re-install USB driver.

Step-8: In Odin, click the PDA button and select CF-Auto-Root-konawifi-konawifixx-gtn5110.tar.md5 file

Step-9: Configure Odin settings. Verify the Auto-Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected. But uncheck the Re-Partition option

Step-10: Once everything is set, click the Start button in Odin to begin the installation

Step-11: When the installation process is completed, the tablet will restart automatically. And soon a PASS message with green background will appear in the extreme left box at the very top of Odin. Now unplug the USB cable from the Galaxy Note to disconnect it from the computer

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 should be now rooted successfully on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean official firmware. Users may now install any app that requires root permission. Also to verify the root status, install Root Checker app from Google Play Store.
