Andre Villas-Boas Unable to Confirm Gareth Bale's Real Madrid Move
Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Vilas-Boas is continuing his radio silence approach on the future of Gareth Bale despite the winger being on the verge of agreeing a deal to join Real Madrid.
Madrid and Spurs are said to be at an advanced stage of negotiations over a world-record move for Bale, who has been the subject of intense transfer speculation for much of the summer.
The La Liga side appeared to confirm a deal was close to completion when Bale's name appeared on the club's official online shop as a possible personalisation option. The selection has now been removed but rumours are rife a deal may be announced as soon as Friday.
But Villas-Boas remains adamant no deal is done: "On Gareth I am not able to comment on anything that has been my tone since the start of the season and I will not come out of it."
The Portuguese boss was once again fielding questions regarding Bale after Tottenham put one foot in the Europa League group phase with an emphatic 5-0 win over Dinamo Tbilisi in Georgia.
Andros Townsend, Paulinho, Roberto Soldado's double and Danny Rose's long-range strike secured the win for Tottenham ahead of the second leg at White Hart Lane which should be plan sailing for Villas-Boas' man.
The performance of Townsend, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, was the most impressive aspect of the win and Villas-Boas was delighted with his performance.
"Andros has been working well in training, so we felt it was time to give him an opportunity and he did very well," the Tottenham manager said.
"If we have the type of performance we had to today (from him) we can always count him.
"For all the young players we are bringing through the competition they face is extremely difficult and in my opinion, when you overcome that type of opposition you can only become a top player.
"He is doing it the right way. He seems very focused after last year's experience."
