Moyes Plans January Cull as Four United Stars Play for Their Future – Report

Manchester United boss David Moyes is prepared to make major changes in January and could be prepared to sell as many as four members of the first team after a disappointing start to the season.

United have picked up just 14 points from nine games and have already lost on three occasions in the Premier League, seemingly leading Moyes to question whether he needs to make wholesale changes.

The Sun reports that the midfield trio Anderson, Nani and Ashley Young are all in danger of being put up for sale in January, while Brazilian right-back Rafael is also playing for his future.

Portuguese winger Nani has appeared five times in the Premier League but is yet to make a significant impact after a season in which he fell out of favour under Sir Alex Ferguson and found himself limited to a handful of appearances.

His fellow winger Young has also struggled and has continued to be heavily criticised for the way in which he falls under the most minimal of contact. The 28-year-old is yet to demonstrate his best for at Old Trafford and could well be sacrificed to make way for new additions.

Few Manchester United supporters would be surprised to hear Anderson's name linked with a move as the Brazilian has struggled for form and fitness for a number of seasons.

The 25-year-old has started just two games this season and it is likely that he will be allowed to leave as Moyes attempts to finally secure the services of a central midfielder after missing out on Ander Herrera and Cesc Fabregas in the summer.

Perhaps the most surprising name in the list if Rafael who was been the preferred choice at right-back last season and has struggled with injuries for much of the current campaign.

However, there is competition for his place with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling both able to play in his position, while summer signing Guillermo Varela is also pushing for a starting berth at right-back.

Should Moyes decide to part company with any of the four then it is likely the funds would be used to make a high profile signing in January as the former Everton boss was widely criticised for only completing a deal for Marouane Fellaini this summer.
