19:30: That's all from us for today. Join us again tomorrow afternoon for live coverage of Fulham v Aston Villa and Everton v Arsenal. Thanks for reading.

19:26: Tottenham really should have made life easier for themselves with a couple more goals, but John O'Shea's own goal proved to be enough following goals from Adam Johnson and Paulinho. Gus Poyet will be furious, not tear-off-your-jacket-and-hurl-it-to-the-floor furious, but furious none the less, after seeing Sandro clearly handle the ball in the box with no penalty awarded.

Very important three points for Tottenham, and the loss for Sunderland leaves them five points off safety. Nervous ending for Andre Villas-Boas, but a deserved win for the north Londoners.

19:24: Tottenham see it out and collect three points, a result that lifts them to within three points of second place. Remarkable.

FULL TIME: Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham

19:22: Townsend attempts to seal it with a curling effort from the edge of the box, but it's well saved by Mannone. Spurs resulting corner brilliantly, with Townsend and Paulinho working brilliant before the former plays the ball across goal. Defoe can't get on the end of it, though.

19:20: Bardsley attempts an awfully difficult header on goal that sails harmlessly over the bar again.

19:19: Five minutes of extra time added on.

19:16: Lennon thinks he's won a free kick on the edge of his own box, but the referee isn't interested and allows Johnson to fire the ball across goal. Lloris stops it, but he needs Dawson to jump in and boot the ball clear with Fletcher looking to clean up.

19:15: Ki aimlessly heads the ball into the direction of no one in particular, before Altidore leaps into Lennon. He is penalised for his frustrated effort.

19:12: Five minutes of normal time remain.

19:09: Another chance squandered by Spurs. Townsend this time sprints away from Larsson and whips a cross in which is met by Paulinho. The Brazilian nods his effort wayard, however.

19:08: A moment of panic in the Spurs box as the ball falls to Borini, but the Italian stabs his effort straight into Lloris' arms.

19:05: Defoe hits the post again! It's Lennon again who whips in a cracking cross and having held his run, Defoe swiftly jumps into action, getting ahead of his man and flicking the post towards the near post. It's too near however, bouncing off the woodwork for the second time this half.

19:01: Sandro has come on for Mousa Dembele and perhaps he should have been penalised for a hand ball in the box. Sunderland swings in a corner and the Brazilian leaps to meet it, arm outstretched. It clearly comes off his arm and the home side are rightfully a bit miffed.

18:59: Sunderland gaining possession back, but are wasteful with it. Ki marauds towards the box and attempts to play the ball through to Borini but the two get their wires crossed and the ball rolls out for a goal kick.

18:53: What a chance for Spurs! Defoe makes a superb run to lose his man and break into the box and is excellently found by Holtby. But the Spurs striker screws his effort wide. Terrible effort, it was, Mannone was able to watch it drift well wide of his post.

18:52: Lee Cattermole and Fabio Borini prepare to come on.

18:50: Andre Villas-Boas will be desperate for his side to add another as soon as possible. His side are carrying that unwanted tag of being complacent and while their midweek win over Fulham was a good way to begin remedying that, a definitive win here wouldn't go amiss either.

18:46: A couple of chances for Spurs who are firmly in control now. Holtby looks to replicate his goal from midweek with another long range effort but it's deflected wide. Defoe gets his head on a clever cross from Lennon minutes later but he hits the post before Mannone is forced to save a bouncing effort from Chadli. Intense period of pressure from the away side.

18:42: Tottenham nearly carve a chance to make it three. Catching Sunderland on the break, Chadli bears down the right flank and sends a perfect ball into the box where Holtby awaits. Adam Johnson does well to get back and just about divert the ball out of danger.

18:40: That was Sunderland's fifth own goal of the season too. Prolific.

18:38: Tottenham have taken the lead for the first time and it's another own goal by Sunderland. Dembele makes space and impressively cuts in from the left before firing the ball across goal. It bounces of the Sunderland captain O'Shea and diverts past Mannone. Not much either Sunderland player could do there, such was the pace on Dembele's cross.

GOAL! Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham (John O'Shea OG, 49)

18:36: Lennon plays a sublime one two with Paulinho but the wingeris offside.

18:34: Colback bursts down the right, nipping under the much larger frame of Michael Dawson. He wins a free kick, but its a pretty terrible delivery from Adam Johnson, and the chance is gone.

18:30: And we are back underway at the Stadium of Light.

18:20: That's the end of the first half at the Stadium of Light and 1-1 seems to be a fair reflection of the game. A pretty awful error from Hugo Lloris gifted Adam Johnson the game's opener, but a well worked free kick from the away side saw Paulinho poke home the equaliser six minutes later.

HALF TIME - Sunderland 1-1 Tottenham

18:13: Chadli leaps brilliantly again to connect with another Tottenham corner, but his effort bounces off the roof of the net.

18:14: That lead didn't last long. Lennon wins a free kick out on the right which is floated into the box. It's met by Chadli who does brilliantly to head the ball back across the goal where Paulinho nips in ahead of his man to stab the ball past Mannone. 1-1 seems the fairer score line heading into half time.

GOAL! Sunderland 1-1 Tottenham (Paulinho, 43)

18:12: Chadli tears down the left and wins a corner, which Dawson attempts to connect with. He and Brown clash in the air, but neither man appeared to do much wrong, but the Spurs man is penalised.

18:07: Sunderland have taken the lead! And it's Hugo Lloris who is responsible. Celustka swings in a hopeful cross from the right which Lloris hopes to meet. He doesn't, and his weak effort to palm the ball out of danger falls at the feet of Johnson, who slams home.

GOAL! Sunderland 1-0 Tottenham (Adam Johnson, 36)

18:04: Holtby cleverly feeds Paulinho but his effort is blocked for a corner. Moments later Defoe accelerates across goal in attempt to make his target on goal bigger, but his low effort is well blocked. From the resulting corner, the England striker claims he is being tugged by Ki. He may well have been, but the flamboyant flop to the turf didn't seem to do his case much good.

18:02: Poor contest so far, no clear chances for either side bar a couple of scrappy efforts that have failed to really trouble Mannone or Lloris.

18:00: Colback feeds Altidore, who creeps into the box from the left. He swings in a ball intended for Fletcher, but it's too high, too long and generally not very good.

17:58: On the edge of the box, Defoe feints, looks for Aaron Lennon to his right but the winger is nowhere to be seen. With no other option, Defoe turns and fires a low effort wide of Mannone's post.

17:55: Kyle Walker and Altidore chase down a stray ball, the result being the American flying over the advertising boards and nearly taking out a steward. The Sunderland man claims Walker shoved him.

17:53: Lennon does brilliantly to turn Bardsley and flicks the ball into Paulinho's path, but the Brazilian's effort is knocked out for a corner. Sunderland deal with the resulting corners.

17:50: Sunderland carve a chance of their own when Altidore does well to find Colback who has burst up from the left into the box, but he loses his composure and skies an awful effort well over Lloris' bar.

17:48: Lewis Holtby had to wait 10 months for his first league goal for Spurs, but he nearly repeated his trick with a vicious effort that was palmed away by Mannone. Sunderland comfortably deal with the resulting corner.

17:47: Phil Bardsley picks Fletcher out with an excellent ball over the top with Tottenham's centre halves asleep. It drifts to a difficult angle however and the Scot drags his effort wide.

17:45: Sunderland have a faint chance of catching the visitors on the break but Altidore breaks it off with a dismal pass.

17:42: Paulinho has Vito Mannone panicking for a moment as he lets fly with a dipping effort that is just over the bar. Good effort.

17:38: Defoe thinks he's won a free kick after being floored by Ki, but the ref waves it away. Altidore breaks at pace, skipping past his man but never gets the ball fully under control and Spurs eventually nick the ball back.

17:35: Mousa Dembele elegantly turns on the ball to feed Chadli, but the Sunderland quickly snuff out the ball before the Belgian can bring it under control.

17:30: And we are underway at the Stadium of Light. Jermain Defoe leads the Tottenham attack ahead of Aaron Lennon, Lewis Holtby and Nacer Chadli. Gus Poyet has somewhat boldly opted to play two strikers with both Altidore and Fletcher in the starting line up.

17:10: Jose Mourinho reflects on his side's loss at Stoke. [via BBC Sport]

"I don't feel very comfortable to tell you exactly what I think about the game. I prefer to be simple and pragmatic and say they scored one more goal than us. They won and we lost. I can't go much further than because I can't analyse with you certain aspects of the game.

"It is a concern [conceding many goals recently]. I don't like it, I don't organise my teams to be like this. Sometimes mistakes kill an organisation."

TEAM NEWS - Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur

Sunderland: Mannone, Bardsley, Celustka, O'Shea (C), Brown, Ki, Colback, Larsson, Johnson, Fletcher, Altidore

Tottenham: Loris, Walker, Capoue, Dawson, Naughton, Dembele, Paulinho, Lennon, Holtby, Chadli, Defoe

17:03: Fantastic day for Arsenal, who don't kick a ball until tomorrow afternoon. Losses for Chelsea and Manchester United plus a draw for Man City means they can go seven points clear at the top of the league should they beat Everton, an astonishing 15 points ahead of the reigning champions.

16:56: And that's it for the three 'o clock kick offs. Stoke City have claimed a memorable victory over Chelsea thanks to a late stunner from Assaidi as Chelsea continue to look all over the shop defensively on the road. After an early Aguero goal Man City were arguably lucky to hold onto a point as Southampton came roaring back, while Liverpool capitalised on a blunt West Ham attack to plunder three second half goals and seal a 4-1 win.

Palace have claimed three points after a 2-0 win over Cardiff with Marouane Chamakh again on the scoresheet, fuelling speculation that the end may indeed be nigh. Meanwhile Norwich comfortably beat West Brom at the Hawthorns to give Chris Hughton a helpful bit of breathing space.

16:53: Full time whistles being blown across the country, and it's finished at the Britannia! Stoke win 3-2. Mourinho looks absolutely disgusted.

FULL TIME

Southampton 1-1 Manchester City

Crystal Palace 2-0 Cardiff

Liverpool 4-1 West Ham

West Brom 0-2 Norwich

16:49: The Britannia errupts as Assaidi gives Stoke a late lead through a brilliant effort from 25 yards out after cutting in from the left. Six goals conceded for Chelsea in their last two games and Mourinho looks a bit miffed.

GOAL! Stoke 3-2 Chelsea (Ossuma Assaidi, 90)

16:47: Norwich seal a valuable 3-0 points as Leroy Fer breaks away to calmly convert.

GOAL! West Brom 0-2 Norwich (Leroy Fer, 89)

16:44: John Terry and Jon Walters ae having at it at Stoke, both men have entered the ref's book in the space of a few minutes.

16:41: Either it's either Suarez's sixth goal in three days or another own goal from West Ham. The Liverpool star twists and turns to creep past Mark Noble before firing a shot that takes a big deflection of Joey O'Brien.

GOAL! Liverpool 4-1 West Ham (Joey O'Brien OG, 80)

16:38: And it's just got worse for the Hammers. Straight red for a shocking challenge on Jordan Henderson.

RED CARD - Kevin Nolan (West Ham)

16:37: And just as a write that, Liverpool extend their lead. Luis Suarez, who has been poor this afternoon, arrives at the far post to nod in Johnson's cross.

GOAL! Liverpool 3-1 West Ham (Luis Suarez, 78)

16:35: Gerrard's departure has really hurt Liverpool; West Ham are now comfortably running the show in midfield.

16:33: Cameron Jerome thought he had put Palace 3-0 up but this goal line technology business rules the ball had not crossed the line.

16:30: Ireland misses a golden chance from eight yards after being nodded through by Crouch. No hat trick for Schurrle who is replaced by Samuel Eto'o with John Obi Mikel making way for Frank Lampard.

16:27: West Ham so close to equalising, but Maiga again lacks the composure to make it matter. Moses is on for Sterling.

16:24: Skrtel on target again! But in the wrong net. Matt Jarvis whips in a cross but the hapless Slovakian toe pokes the ball past his own keeper.

GOAL! Liverpool 2-1 West Ham (Martin Skrtel, 63)

16:20: A poor clearance from Kompany nearly allows Southampton in for a second, but the former Roma striker screws his effort wide.

16:18: Demba Ba has come on to replace Fernando Torres for Chelsea.

16:17: Return of Chamakh! The former Arsenal man scores his second in as many games to give Palace a priceless 2-0 lead over Cardiff, smashing Barry Bannan's cross into the back of the net.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 2-0 Cardiff (Marouane Chamakh, 58)

16:12: Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is forced off through injury at Anfield, replaced by Lucas.

16:10: It is all happening at the Britannia. Jon Walters squares the ball to his would-be international teammates Stephen Ireland who curls it past Petr Cech, but minutes later Chelsea peg the home side back through Schurrle, who fires a bullet-like effort past Begovic.

GOAL! Stoke 2-2 Chelsea (Andre Schurrle, 52)

GOAL! Stoke 2-1 Chelsea (Steven Ireland, 50)

16:06: Liverpool's second may go down as a Jimmy Collins' own goal in the end. Sakho's header looked to be on target but whether he will be officially credited with it is open to debate. Stewart Downing was hauled off at half time against his former club.

16:04: Liverpool double their lead straight away! Steven Gerrard floats in a cross which is met by Sakho. His connection isn't the best, but James Collins can't prevent it going in.

GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 West Ham (Mamadou Sakho, 46)

16:01: And we are back underway across the country with all five Premier League games nicely poised for an entertaining second half.

15:52: A late flurry of first half goals has shaken this afternoon up, with Southampton and Stoke pegging Manchester City and Chelsea back with Dani Osvaldo epitomising an inspring fightback with a wonderful effort. Liverpool have taken the lead even with Luis Suarez misfiring, thanks to an own goal from Guy Demel, while in the battle between the two lowest scoring sides in the league, Palace lead Cardiff through an early goal from Jerome.

HALF TIME SCORES

Crystal Palace 1-0 Cardiff City

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham United

Southampton 1-1 Manchester City

Stoke 1-1 Chelsea

West Brom 0-1 Norwich

15:48: After his mid-week exploits everyone and their dog expected Luis Suarez to be this weekend's star attraction again. However the Uruguayan has endured a poor first half, wasting a good chance to double Liverpool's lead, blazing a shot over the bar after a clever through ball from Raheem Sterling.

15:45: What an end to the first halves of this afternoon's game.

15:44: Goals everywhere! How convenient. Luis Suarez fires on target but the ball takes a big deflection of poor Guy Demel. And after kicking up a gear following Aguero's opener, Dani Osvaldo has equalised at St Mary's in stunning fashion. The club's record signing magically drifts past Vincent Kompany before curling a stunning effort into the stop corner. And after failing to convert a handful of chances, Chelsea have paid the price with Peter Crouch stabbing home from close range.

GOAL! Stoke 1-1 Chelsea (Peter Crouch, 40)

GOAL! Southampton 1-1 Manchester City (Dani Osvaldo 39)

GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 West Ham (Guy Demel 39)

15:38: Southampton come close to equalising! Luke Shaw whips in a brilliant across which flashes across the goal and is met by Calum Chambers, who can only nod the ball wide.

15:34: Southampton are fighting back brilliantly following Sergio Aguero's early goal. After some neat build up play Adam Lallana has the chance to test the City goalkeeper but James Milner arrives at the last minute to nick the ball away. Moments earlier, Aguero did the unthinkable and missed from eight yards out after being played through by Yaya Toure.

15:30: West Ham doing very well to deny Liverpool space. Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho have been closed down almost instantly by the tireless Hammers in central areas.

15:28: Quick World Cup update, England's opening game against Italy has been moved from 02:00 (GMT) to 23:00 (GMT). Roy Hodgson was reportedly after a :21:00 (GMT) start.

15:24: Really important save from Mignolet earlier, did fantastically well to leap across the line to bat away Maiga's effort. Should the big Belgian maintain that sort of form he will still struggle to win a starting berth for his country in Brazil next summer however, with Thibaut Courtois still Marc Wilmots' first choice.

15:21: No home goals scored in the Premier League so far, apart from at Selhurst Park. Charlie Adam gets walloped by a shot from his own teammate Glenn Whelan and is forced off minutes later, replaced b Stephen Ireland.

15:20: Liverpool nearly fall behind! Matt Jarvis whips an excellent cross in which is met by Maiga, but he draws an excellent save from Simon Mignolet to keep it scoreless.

15:15: Gary Hooper scores his fourth goal of the season to give Norwich the lead at the Hawthorns thanks to an excellent through ball from Leroy Fer. Meanwhile at Anfield there are chances at both ends, Maiga is inches away from giving the away side the lead while Luis Suarez uncharacteristically loses his composure and fires straight at Jussi Jasskelainen

GOAL! West Brom 0-1 Norwich (Gary Hooper, 13)

15:11: David Moyes' afternoon just got worse. City have taken the lead through Aguero once again who claims his 18th goal in 28 games, just as Andre Schurrle puts Chelsea ahead at Stoke through a fine low finish into the back of the net.

GOAL! Southampton 0-1 Manchester City (Sergio Aguero, 10)

GOAL! Stoke 0-1 Chelsea (Andre Schurrle, 10)

15:07: Palace take the lead! Jerome nods home from close range.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-0 Cardiff (Cameron Jerome, 6)

15:02: Alan Pardew on Newcastle's win over Manchester United. [via BBC Sport]

"I think it is difficult for David and the club, he is a great manager. It is very important the fans and the board stick with him. He has proven he will be great for this football club. David is big enough to stand up to that."

15:01: And we are underway across the country.

Norwich: Ruddy; Whittaker, Turner, Bassong (c), Olsson; Redmond, Howson, Johnson, Fer, Elmander, Hooper

14:46: The rest of your Premier League team news is coming your way in a moment with kick off 15 minutes away.

14:44: Newcastle move up to sixth in the Premier League, United can drop the 10th should Aston Villa beat Fulham tomorrow.

14:39: And that's it, Newcastle take all three points at Old Trafford! Another worryingly toothless performance from United marred be a real lack of desire and confidence. Newcastle were not spectacular by any means, but took full advantage of another poor performance from the champions. Yohan Cabaye's goal was enough to seal their first win away to the reigning champions since the Premier League began. What a way to start the afternoon.

FULL TIME - Manchester United 0-1 Newcastle United

14:35: Full time, Manchester United have done absolutely nothing with those three minutes of added time.

14:32: On the brink of added time here and United do not look like scoring. Three minutes added on. Can they avoid a second home defeat in the space of three days?

14:29: Silly challenge from the Newcastle defender on Patrice Evra near the corner flag. Manchester United free kick.

14:26: Newcastle have made their last substitution, bringing Yanga-Mbiwa on for Debuchy. Five minutes left.

14:24: Less than 10 minutes remaining at Old Trafford and United are facing the prospect of back to back Premier League defeats for the first time in approximately a billion years.

14:21: Replays suggest the decision to disallow van Persie's goal right; the Dutchman was in an offside position when the ball was directed into his path by Jonny Evans.

14:18: United have had a goal chalked off, but they are really pushing for an equaliser now. Moyes has used his final substitute, bringing Antonio Valencia on for Rafael.

14:14: Goal! No, wait, it isn't! Robin van Persie nods in from a cross by Sian Massey rules it out for offside.

14:13: Anderson has also come on, replacing Tom Cleverley in midfield.

14:11: And he's on! Zaha replaces Nani, who has been very disappointing this afternoon.

14:08: Having brought Hatem Ben Arfa off the bench it has definitely helped and Newcastle have taken the lead. Van Persie, who looks as if he has been rushed back too soon, could be coming off soon with Wilfried Zaha warming up. The former Crystal Palace man could soon make his first Premier League appearance.

14:04: Newcastle have taken the lead! Moments after the home side should have been given a penalty, Yohan Cabaye fire home from close range from a Sissoko cross, via a slight deflection. Just under half an hour left.

GOAL! Manchester United 0-1 Newcastle United (Yohan Cabaye, 61)

13:59: Madness in the Newcastle goal! Patrice Evra's header seems destined for net, but Anita clears off the line, but with what? It looks as if the Dutchman has used his arm to make the vital block. United force another effort on goal but the Newcastle 'keeper is there again.

13:55: Van Persie picks Hernandez out wirh a sublime 50 yard pass from his own half, picking out Hernandez brilliantly but the Mexican fires straight at Tim Krul.

13:53: And in defence of van Persie, United have struggled to create anything for him. A lack of service has limited the Dutchman's contribution, but moments later a wicked cross from Rafael nearly finds the striker, but Williamson carefully diverts it.

13:51: Again, van Persie looking off the pace. The Dutchman has been struggling with a groin injury since November but with Wayne Rooney missing, could Moyes afford to leave the former Arsenal captain out of his XI?

13:48: And we are back underway at Old Trafford. No changes from either side.

13:35: Half time at Old Trafford. Goalless at the moment and given the lack creativity emerging from United, it could remain that way. The club's midweek defeat to Everton suggested today was going to be a very difficult fixture for David Moyes, and flat performances from the likes of van Persie and Nani have blunted any hopes of remedying that so far.

Alan Pardew seems content to sit back and hope for his side to catch the champions on the break, but may fancy his chances of expanding his game as this contest progresses. Mathieu Debuchy had a fantastic chance at the end of the first half; if the visitors needed any sort of hint to suggest they can get a result here, that was it.

HALF TIME - Manchester United 0-0 Newcastle United

13:33: So close for Newcastle! Cabaye picks Remy out with a brilliant pass, but De Gea is out to block the Frenchman's effort. Moments later, the full back meets a header, but can only direct it straight at the United goalkeeper. Half time.

13:30: Januzaj seems to be United's only spark at the moment. Nani is struggling to impose himself as van Persie looks compeltely off the pace. Hernandez goes down in the box following a challenge from Fabricio Collocini, but the referee is not interested. Correct decision.

13:28: Moments later, Nani repeats van Persie's trick of over hitting an ambitious pass. Newcastle take possession but approach De Gea's goal with real trepidation, before Tiote fires widely over the bar.

13:25: A wholly scrappy affair at Old Trafford at the moment, epitomised by a woefully over hit pass from Robin van Persie. I think it was meant for Januzaj.

13:23: Nani does well to find van Persie in the box who digs it across to Januzaj. The young Belgian controls it well, but he's quickly closed down by Gouffran.

13:19: Again, United are struggling to get into gear this afternoon. After a very flat performance on Wednesday, the home side are in real need of a moment of inspiration today.

13:16: Yohan Cabaye follows that up with a dipping effort from nearly 30 yards, helped by a deflection. David de Gea in the United goal jogs back, slightly alarmed, but its tipped away. Vidic deals with the resulting corner.

13:13: Sissoko strides towards the Manchester United goal, stepping past Januzaj and Phil Jones before getting his shot off. It deflects off a United defender to give the away side a corner. Evra eventually clears.

113:09: Williamson does excellently to clear a cross away from a van Persie free kick. Januzaj picks up the ball and swings another great cross in but Williamson is there again. Newcastle deal with the resulting corner.

13:05: Loic Remy has a tough afternoon ahead as he leads the Newcastle United line on his own. The former Marseille man has his first chance of the afternoon, but he heads wide under pressure.

12:58: After the loss to Everton, United fans are firmly behind Moyes this afternoon. Januzaj and Nani link up well before the ball falls to Cleverley, who has two attempts on goal that are charged down by Newcastle defenders.

12:40: Following United's loss to Everton, things are looking desperate for David Moyes. But has Newcastle's comprehensive 3-0 loss to Swansea taking the wind out of their sails?

Adnan Januzaj starts for Manchester United, as does Robin van Persie with Wayne Rooney absent through injury.
