Bangladesh square series with defeat of England
The Tigers win by 34 runs as Mashrafe Mortaza takes four wickets in Dhaka.
Bangladesh produced an inspired bowling display to set up a decider in the three-match one-day series with England after securing victory by 34 runs in Dhaka. Mashrafe Mortaza and Taskin Ahmed took seven wickets between them as the hosts defended 239 after Jos Buttler's team fialed to recover from a string of early breakthroughs.
Mahmudullah struck 75 to haul the home side, who lost the opening ODI by 21 runs in Mirpur, to 328 for 8 from their 50 overs. Mortaza hit 44 from 29 balls in a late 69-run cameo with Hassir Hosssain [27 not out]. David Willey, Adil Rashid and Jake Ball took two wickets each to leave the tourists as favourites at the half-way stage.
But a flurry of early wickets turned the match the way of Bangladesh, as they look to protect an unbeaten record in series contested over 50 overs. James Vince [5], Ben Duckett [0], Jason Roy [13] and Ben Stokes [0] were dismissed inside 10 overs to leave England on the brink at 26 for 4.
Jonny Bairstow [35] and Buttler [57] put on 79 for the fifth wicket to drag their side back into contention, but the dismissal coupled with the loss of Moeen Ali [4] and Chris Woakes [7] saw The Tigers take a firm grip of the contest. Rashid and Ball provided brief resistance with a spate of boundaries but Mortaza took his fourth wicket to level the series at 1-1 heading into the final match in Chittagong. Defeat was compounded by an angry confrontation between Buttler and Mahmudullah during the run-chase, which could see the England skipper reprimanded.
"I was disappointed in the way that they celebrate," said Buttler. "It was an emotional game. We're grown men but I was just disappointed.
"We were a bit tentative as a side, but that is not something we want to do as a side. We want to come out and take it on. [239] was very chase-able. It was a good wicket. We bowled fantastically well up front again. We could have bowled them out for 190, Mashrafe played a good innings but 240 was very attainable.
"It wasn't easy but we bowled very well. There were a few overs where we let things happen. It was a good bowling performance. It's been tough obviously, we had high hopes of winning this game and going 2-0 up in the series but it has been tough. Conditions are hard for us but the guys haven't mentioned it."
