Chelsea Alerted Over Jackson Martinez's Contract Situation at Porto
Jackson Martinez's contract situation at FC Porto has put Chelsea on high alert as they look to sign the prolific striker in January, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea currently have Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o in the striking department; who have cumulatively scored only five out of a total of 32 goals scored by the Blues in the Premier League. Jose Mourinho is reportedly leading the race to sign the Colombian International as he is keen to bolster his striking options.
Martinez joined Porto in July 2012 and since then has made a significant impact scoring 47 goals in 65 games in all competitions. The 27-year-old, whose contract runs out in 2016, was also linked to Arsenal in the past.
However, he is unsure about his future with the reigning Portuguese champions as top clubs in England are reported to be on the hunt to acquire his services.
"It is they who have to decide what they want to do with me. If it is to continue here, or send it to a transfer depends very much on them," Martinez told the Portuguese paper Record.
The striker is unwilling to rule out any transfer in the future and is looking to bide his time with the club, hoping to see some negotiations in the future.
"If something happens, and more than thinking in economic conditions, I think there are opportunities that can be taken. But I continue to think of the club and now I leave my future in the hands of God," he explained.
The Colombian international who has a release clause of €40m, does not want to hurry up in committing or declaring any information about his future.
"I will only give my maximum and not look to hasten things, because they will happen in due time. For now I do not feel the need to talk with FC Porto. I am calm without denying or closing, or trading any possibility that some part of the club is interested in keeping me," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Chelsea pushed their way back into the top four with 34 points with a 0-0 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates on a wet Monday night. Mourinho's men face Swansea City on Boxing Day before the crucial clash against Liverpool in the Premier League. The Blues's manager will be looking for an improved performance from his side which will enable them to gain maximum points in the coming fixtures.
