Michael Strahan made sure his hosting gig at the 2015 Critics' Choice Movie Awards was one to remember with an entrance that gave viewers more than they bargained for.

The former NFL star kicked off the festivities with a striptease and impressive dance moves inspired by stripping flick, Magic Mike XXL.

"You know I don't have many lines, but who needs lines when you have legs like this?" Strahan asked the audience before ripping his trousers off.

The football analyst, who also hosts talk show Live! With Kelly and Michael alongside Kelly Rip, was soon joined on stage by a bevy of shirtless back-up dancers in their underwear.

Members of the celebrity-studded including Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Chastain found his opening monologue hilarious, and could be seen cracking smiles.

Despite his best efforts, many viewers claimed his dance moves couldn't compensate for his wooden hosting skills.

On a brighter note, Strahan is set to make his big screen debut alongside Channing Tatum in Magic Mike XXL when it hits cinemas on 3 July.

"The wardrobe guy called me the other day ... and after the conversation, I said, 'Why did he even bother to call me to talk about wardrobe, 'cause apparently there ain't nothin' to be worn!'", Strahan joked after news broke of his cameo.

"It's like kind of a thong thing. I don't know if I'm necessarily hairy on the back end, but maybe I do need to be waxed."
