Donald Trump announces that US is 'locked and loaded' for action against North Korea
Kim Jong-un has threatened to attack Guam amid the growing tensions
Donald Trump has issued an ominous threat to North Korea amid growing tensions between the two nations.
On Friday morning, Trump tweeted: "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!"
The current tensions have been steadily increasing in recent months following multiple missile tests by North Korea.
Some have failed, but two intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests have raised concerns about the possibility of a US target.
It later emerged that the Kim regime had worked out how to miniaturise nuclear warheads to be transported via ICBM, though there are doubts over their reliability.
Retaliating to this, Trump warned that threats to the US and their allies would be met with "fire and fury".
Pyongyang responded angrily threatening to attack the US Pacific territory of Guam.
Trump then announced that the US is safe, but that North Korea should be "very, very nervous".
The most recent missile tests by North Korea have reportedly been able to reach the US mainland, but the frailty of their weapons systems has increased scepticism about their true capabilities.
China has since announced their stance on the conflict.
The state-run Global Times said: "If North Korea launches missiles that threaten US soil first and the US retaliates, China will stay neutral. If the US and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so."
