Google Suspends Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Citing Reports of Critical SMS Bug on Nexus 4, 5 and 6
Several Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 users have recently reported a critical SMS bug via Android Issue Tracker in Android 5.0 Lollipop. The bug is apparently preventing them from sending text messages.
The issue seems to be currently limited to a few mobile network carriers including Vodafone Netherlands, India and Mobistar Belgium, while it has also affected all virtual operators connected to these networks, reports Myce.
User reports suggest that affected Nexus devices are reportedly throwing up error code 38 while trying to send SMS on these networks, though there seems to be no issues with receiving SMS on them.
It is ascertained that the SMS bug could be related to the specific equipment or software being used for relaying text messages back and forth on the affected carriers.
In related news, the Dutch website Tweakers reports that Google has confirmed that the bug also affects Nexus 6 and it has prompted them to suspend Android 5.0 Lollipop updates on the affected Nexus devices until the bug is fixed.
