Guinness World Records 60th anniversary: The most weird and wonderful records ever broken

Since the Guinness Book of Records was set up in 1955, it has been home to not only the most impressive records but the most bizarre – including chainsaw juggling and the most straws stuffed in a mouth. Ahead of the 60<sup>th anniversary of the Guinness World Records, here are some of the weirdest and most wonderful records ever broken.

Longest fingernails on a female

Christine Walton of Las Vegas, who goes by the stage name "The Duchess", has the longest fingernails in the world as of 2011. By 2013, Walton's nails had grown to a combined 7.314m (23ft 11in). Having not cut them since 1990, she says it was a conscious decision to grow them.

Most tattooed man

Lucky Diamond Rich, born Gregory Paul McLaren in 1971, is a performance artist and street performer from Australia (born in New Zealand) who can swallow swords and juggle on a unicycle – but he is equally famous for being the world's most tattooed man. From his first tattoo of a juggling club on his hip, he has now spent over 1,000 hours being tattooed around the world, including on the skin between his toes, his ears and his gums. Now fully saturated with ink, he is being tattooed with white and colour designs on top of his black.

Heaviest weight lifted by a human beard

The heaviest weight ever lifted by a human beard is 63.80kg – when Lithuanian Antanas Kontrimas lifted television presenter Gupse Özay'ın in Istanbul, Turkey.

Longest metal coil passed through nose and out of the mouth

The longest metal coil passed through the nose and out of the mouth measured 11 ft 10.91 in in length and was achieved by Andrew Stanton, a Las Vegas performer, on the set of 'Lo Show dei Record' in Rome, Italy, in 2012.

Farthest arrow shot using feet

The farthest arrow shot into a target using the feet is 20 ft and was achieved by Nancy Siefker on the set of Guinness World Records Unleashed in Los Angeles, California, in 2013. The guidelines require a target of no more than 12 inches in diameter. Nancy, a cirque performer, hit a target measuring just 5.5 in.

Most clothes pegs on face in one minute

The most clothes pegs clipped to the face in one minute is 51 pegs, achieved by Silvio Sabba in Pioltello, Italy, in 2012.

Most straws in a mouth

The most straws stuffed in a mouth is 400, achieved by Simon Elmore of the UK, who held them there for 10 seconds at the Mark 'n' Simon Show, Sollhuben, Germany, in 2009.

Longest distance keeping a table lifted with teeth

The longest distance keeping a table lifted with the teeth is 11.80m (38 ft 8 in) and was achieved by Georges Christen (Luxembourg) who ran this distance holding a 12 kg (26 lb 7 oz) heavy table with a person weighing 50 kg (110 lb 3 oz) sitting on it, on the set of 'Lo show dei record', in Madrid, Spain, on 9 February 2008.

Most Big Macs consumed

Donald Gorske, who appeared on Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me in 2004, consumed his 26,000<sup>th Big Mac on 11 October 2012, in his fortieth year of eating the McDonald's burgers on a daily basis. Gorske, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is a self-confessed "Big Mac Enthusiast" but has allegedly had no health problems.

Most wins for a female at the Gurning World Championships

The most gurning world championship female wins is 27 by Anne Woods of the UK, achieved at the Egremont Crab Fair in Cumbria, between 1977 and 2010. Egremont Crab Fair and Sports was established in 1267, which makes it one of the oldest fairs in the world.
