Overview
Hull come into this game on the back of a 2-0 win away against Middlesbrough in the third round of the FA Cup. Aaron McLean opened the scoring in the first quarter of the game for the visitors before Nick Proschwitz's second-half goal put the Tigers into the next round of the competition.
Steve Bruce's side thumped Fulham by six goals in their last league fixture at the KC Stadium. The 53-year-old will be hopeful that his players put in a strong performance to snatch at least a point from this game. The Tigers are 10th in the league table with 23 points from 20 matches.
Meanwhile, the Chelsea squad enjoyed the week off after a busy festive period. The Blues enjoyed a 2-0 victory in their last outing against Derby County in the FA Cup third round.
John Obi Mikel and Oscar's second-half goal put the Europa League winners into the fourth round of the FA Cup. The west London club are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions, keeping three clean sheets in the process.
Chelsea are third in the league table with 43 points after 20 matches. Jose Mourinho will want his players to keep the winning momentum and snatch all three points. A win against Hull would put the Blues top of the Premier League table, since Manchester City and Arsenal do not play until Sunday and Monday, respectively.
What the Managers Say
Steve Bruce: "The one thing we're going to have to do is play well. We have played well in these games so far, although maybe not got the results. We've given all of them a run for their money and let's hope that continues. But we know that, on their day, these teams can come and give you a hiding so we have to be at our best."
Jose Mourinho: "It's a very difficult match, I don't say that because it's a Premier League match and every match is difficult, I say that based on my analysis of Steve Bruce's work. We have a chance to win and if we do that for a few hours we are top of the league, but the most important thing is to secure a position in the top four which is very difficult for everyone."
