A 3,000 square-foot solar panel powers up imposing Newport mansion spanning 11,740 sq.ft
Stephen Rizzone, CEO of wireless router manufacturer Energous Corp, has put his hi-tech, 11,740 square-foot (sq.ft) beach-side-mansion up for sale at $22 million.
The LEED-certified Newport Beach home in California is powered by a 3,000 sq ft solar panel, and took six years to build, according to its current owner.
As the Orange County Register reports, the huge size of the solar array seems to have attracted mixed reactions from neighbours.
Here is how Rizzone sums up their overall reaction: "80% in favour, 10% curious and neutral, 10% negative".
"The house gained some notoriety, good and bad," Rizzone said to the Wall Street Journal. "But we were able to work through that."
This massive mansion, with four bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a saltwater swimming pool. movie theatre and two kitchens, draws 95% of its electricity from this solar array in the backyard.
The 11,740 square-foot mansion is controlled by 15 iPads that monitor and adjust systems such as heating, air-conditioning, shades, sliding glass windows and security cameras at just a swipe or tap of a finger.
It should be quite an enjoyable experience with the high-tech gadgetry amid the serene beauty of nature surrounding the beach view mansion. Not to mention, such real-life pleasures often come at a hefty price and only if you could afford to pay up a staggering sum of $22m for all the fun that awaits you.
