Elizabeth Taylor's 'Cleopatra' Cape to Go Up for Auction
The iconic gold cape worn by screen goddess, Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963's multi Oscar winning film Cleopatra is going under the hammer with Heritage Auctions in Dallas on Friday.
The cape, made of gold-painted leather and hand-stitched beading, was constructed to resemble the wings of a Phoenix and was worn by Taylor in two pivotal scenes in the films, seen here with her co star Richard Burton.
It is expected to bring in $20,000 but if it is anything like last year's sale of Elizabeth's jewels at auction, which sold at 6o times the original reserve price, then this figure, is an extremely conservative estimation.
The actress, who died in Los Angeles last year at the age of 79, was a screen legend, known for her colourful love life, and stunning jewels, as well as an Oscar winning acting career.
