Lucha libre: Flamboyant masked Mexican wrestlers perform in London [Photos]
Some of Mexico's most famous wrestlers are in London to perform in The Greatest Spectacle of Lucha Libre at York Hall in Bethnal Green from 9 to 11 July.
Lucha libre, which translates as 'free fighting', is a Mexican style of professional wrestling where fighters traditionally enter the ring in outlandish costumes, capes and masks, performing acrobatic moves and leaping from spectacular heights.
The festival will be headlined by the legendary El Hijo del Santo (The Son of The Saint), along with other stars of the Mexican ring such as the flamboyant Cassandro el Exotico, a 5ft 5in crossdresser. The UK will be represented by Lucha Britannia stars like Metallico.
York Hall, home of British boxing, will be transformed into a Mexican arena, complete with cabaret performers, dancers, Mexican food and mucho tequila. Each day will feature different shows, including matinees for family audiences, a grand finale and more raucous Friday night cabaret spectacular.
