Manchester United: Ashley Young willing to take a pay cut to remain at Old Trafford
Manchester United star Ashley Young is reportedly ready to take a pay cut on his current salary to sign a long-term deal to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.
According to the Mirror, the English winger is ready to restructure his pay packet, which is currently £120,000-a-week in order to sign a new three-year deal with the club.
The 29-year-old star has been given a new lease of life under Louis van Gaal, and has been one of United's best players in recent months.
Earlier in the season, following the arrival of Angel di Maria, it was believed that the former Aston Villa player's time at Old Trafford will come to an end. But, Young has turned his fortunes around after first impressing as a wing-back in the Dutch manager's 3-5-2 formation and now regaining his place on the left wing in the manager's new 4-3-3 system.
The England international has even managed to keep the British transfer record signing Argentine out of the squad in recent weeks.
Young put in a man of the match performance during the Red Devils clash against neighbours Manchester City on Sunday, 12 April, where he scored a goal and set up another for midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
Van Gaal is an admirer of the Three Lions winger and even praised Young earlier in the season and claimed that he was a player perfectly suited to the manager's system.
The report claims that Ed Woodward has contacted the United winger's representatives and is due to hold contract talks regarding an extension.
Young's impressive performance for his club in recent months has also caught the eye of England manager Roy Hodgson and he could be in line for a call up during the next round of internationals.
