Manchester United 0-0 PSV - Juventus 1-0 Manchester City - Uefa Champions League - as it happened
Group A: Malmo 0-5 PSG - Shakhtar 2-4 Real Madrid
Group B: CSKA 0-2 Wolfsburg - Manchester United 0-0 PSV
Group C: Astana 2-2 Benfica - Atletico Madrid 2-0 Galatasaray
Group D: Monchegladbach 4-1 Sevilla - Juventus 1-0 Manchester City
Full time in Europe and another bad night for the English clubs. Manchester United's passage top the last 16 I far from securer after they missed the chance to progress with a goalless draw with PSV. They need a result in Wolfsburg in two weeks time to go through. Manchester City are already through but they seemed destined to finish second in their group again after suffering a second group defeat to Juventus. We also await news on Joe Hart's injury.
Well that is all we have time for on this Champions League live text. We're back with coverage of the Premier League this weekend but until next time, goodbye.
Fair to say PSV are dominating the game at Old Trafford now as we enter the last 20 minutes. De Gea has to deal with another shot from range. The home side have brought on Marouane Fellaini but they are yet to send the ball long in desperation. Lingard had just missed a sitter on the half volley. Probably the best chance of the game.
Not a good half or the Premier League pair. Juventus lead by a Mario Mandzukic goal against Manchester City, who have been lively and have had plenty of chances. Manchester United meanwhile have been typically dull and have yet to carve out any decent opportunities in their stalemate with PSV. Anthony Martial guilty of missing a few chances in that one.
Goal: Juventus 1-0 Manchester City (Mario Manzukic)
The 2014 runners-up take the lead after 19 minutes. Paul Pogba moves past Kevin de Bruyne and after Patrice Evra whips in a cross from the left, Manzukic fends off Otamendi and volleys in from eight yards.
Goal: Shakhtar 0-1 Real Madrid (Cristiano Ronaldo)
After playing an hour of the defeat to Liverpool, Sergio Aguero is back again tonight for City and what a boost that is for Manuel Pellegrini. If the Argentine can fire on all cylinders then surely the Etihad Stadium club can be a threat both domestically and in Europe. Good chance to recapture some match fitness ahead of the festive period when he will be relied upon.
It had looked so bleak for both Manchester clubs int the competition until victories in their last group outings put them on course for the knock-out phase. City swept Sevilla aside 3-1 in Spain while Wayne Rooney scored the only goal as United overcame CSKA. After wins for Arsenal and Chelsea yesterday, the Premier league should expect four teams in the knock-out phase. No talk about co-efficient now is there?
Less than an hour until kick-off so let's take a look at what each side in the four groups need tonight.
In Group A, PSG will join Real Madrid in the last 16 if they beat Malmo - where Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to his former club. Shakhtar and Malom meanwhile need to win their two remaining group games.
Manchester United will qualify for the knock-out stage from Group B if they beat PSV, but anything less will see the group go down to the final day. Wolfsburg's win over CSKA gives them hope.
Atletico Madrid need only a point against CSKA to qualify. A win for the Turkish giants would put them on course for qualification. Benfica's draw with Astana, who are now out, means they are nervously looking over their shoulder.
Finally in Group D, Juventus will accompany Manchester City in the knock-out phase with a win tonight, or if Sevilla failed to beat Borussia Monchengladbach. The Spanish club must win to assure themselves a Europa League place.
No surprises from the Manchester United team. Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial both return. Bastian Schweinsteiger did not train on Tuesday but he starts in midfielder alongside Morgan Schneiderlin. Marcos Rojo is at left-back.
PSV meanwhile start with Hector Moreno, who made the challenge which left Luke Shaw with a double broken leg, with Luuk de Jong leads the attack.
Confirmed teams in both of our featured Champions League games are on the way, but what do we know about how both United and City will line up tonight?
United captain Wayne Rooney is back after illness as is fellow-striker Anthony Martial. Ander Herrera and Phil are however both out. Luke Shaw faces a scan this week after breaking his leg in two places in the first game at PSV in September.
City are without a host of players including defenders Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Eliquim Mangala, midfielders David Silva and Samir Nasri and striker Wilfried Bony. A win will see Manuel Pellegrini's side guarantee themselves top spot.
After Arsenal and Chelsea both did their Champions League hopes the power of good on Tuesday, tonight sees the turn of Manchester United and Manchester City. United need a win to guarantee their passage against a PSV side who defeated them in the opening group game. City meanwhile are already assured of being in the last 16 but need a win to assure themselves top spot in the group. Exits to Barcelona in the last two seasons having finished second suggests Manuel Pellegrini's side need the cushion. Team news and the latest from across Europe on a big night is on the way.
