Florida Teen Penelope Soto Jailed for Giving Judge the Finger [VIDEO]
A teenager in Florida has been jailed for swearing and sticking her middle finger up at a judge who doubled her bond during sentencing.
Penelope Soto, 18, was appearing in court after being arrested for illegal possession of the prescription drug Xanax.
During the hearing, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat was asking about Soto's assets in order to decide on a penalty.
After Soto told the judge she was earning about $200 (£128) a week, she said her assets included her car and "a lot" of jewellery.
When Rodriguez-Chomat asked how much her jewellery was worth, Soto began laughing, to which the judge responded "It's not a joke, you know, we're not in a club now. We are not in a club, be serious about it."
Soto, who was constantly smirking and playing with her hair through the proceedings, apologised for laughing and added: "You just made me laugh. It's worth a lot of money."
When the judge asked how much is a lot, she responded: "Like Rick Ross. It's worth money".
Failing to understand the reference to the American rapper, Rodriguez-Chomat asked if Soto had taken any drugs in the last 24 hours. After again laughing at the question, Soto replied "actually, no".
As the judge was preparing to set her bond at $5,000, Soto then sarcastically said "adios" as she left. After being summoned back to appear in front of him, Rodriguez-Chomat then upped the bond to $10,000.
Visibly shocked by the decision, Soto asked "are you serious" before saying "f**k you" and giving him the finger as she walked from court.
Rodriguez-Chomat then called the defendant back again, charged her with contempt of court and sentenced her to 30 days in jail.
