PS4 price cut: Sony confirms $50 US price drop for PlayStation 4
Sony has at last confirmed a significant price cut for the PlayStation 4. Ahead of the busy autumn/winter period, various bundles that for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection will be sold for up to $50.00 off the previous retail price in the US and Canada.
From tomorrow (9 October) the Uncharted bundle will be available for $349.99 ($429.99 CAD), as will the Star Wars Battlefront bundle which goes on sale on 17 November. The limited edition Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 bundle will be sold for $429.99 ($499.99 CAD) from 6 November. Limited edition Disney Infinity 3.0 and Star Wars Battlefront console bundles also available that month for $399.99 ($469.99 CAD).
The announcement makes a price cut for Europe all-but certain after Sony announced a price cut for Japan at their Tokyo Game Show press conference in September.Shortly after that announcement Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that he was expecting Sony to drop the console's price worldwide.
On 5 October US retailer Target accidentally revealed that a price drop was in the works, advertising it for a brief time on their website before taking it down. The official confirmation comes via the PlayStation US blog.
The UK recommended retail price is £299.99 for both the standard 500GB model in the more recent 1TB model. How a price drop here would affect both is uncertain, but if we were to wager we'd bet on the 500GB model falling to £249.99 and the 1TB remaining the same.
