Sony starts Android 5.0 Lollipop roll-out for Xperia Z2 and Z2 tablet
Sony has finally started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z2 and Z2 tablet, following its recent announcement on Twitter about the impending Lollipop release for a bunch of devices.
The company has clarified in its latest tweet (above) that the Android 5.0 update will be rolling out for the Z2 and Z2 tablet in phases, while several readers at Android Police have confirmed that the update is currently available via Sony's companion software for Windows and Mac, instead of the proposed over-the-air update.
Those who missed the OTA update notification or cannot find the update via the companion software can go ahead and search for the update files manually by navigating to Settings > About Phone > Software updates > System updates.
It is recommended that you try downloading the Lollipop update via Wi-Fi network in order to avoid expensive data bills on your 3G connection.
If you are unsure about the version of the Lollipop firmware already installed on your device, you can go check if the following version number and time stamp details are listed under the build number/version number section of your phone's settings:
Android version: Android 5.0 (Lollipop)
Latest available software: 23.1.A.0.690
Release started: 2015-04-07
To find the exact build number go to Settings > About phone > Build number/version.
