Sex study: Women are bisexual or gay but never straight says University of Essex research
A study has found that women who state they are of heterosexual orientation are aroused by videos of naked men and naked women. The study was led by Dr. Gerulf Rieger from the Department of Psychology at the University of Essex and was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
The study analyzed the physiological response of 345 women as they were shown the videos. 74% of the women identified as 'straight', and overall 82% of the women were aroused by watching videos of either sex.
Lesbians showed a stronger response toward their preferred sex and a physiological response similar to that demonstrated by men. "It shows that lesbians are more male-typical in their arousal than straight women, as it is usually men who show distinct sexual responses to their favourite sex," the University of Essex reported.
"Even though the majority of women identify as straight, our research clearly demonstrates that when it comes to what turns them on, they are either bisexual or gay, but never straight," Rieger told The Telegraph.
"Although some lesbians were more masculine in their sexual arousal, and others were more masculine in their behaviours, there was no indication that these were the same women. This shows us that how women appear in public does not mean that we know anything about their sexual role preferences," said Rieger.
In July, Pornhub and Redtube statistics revealed that women most often search for lesbian porn online. Women across the world were found to be watching porn, and although not as much as men, the gap between the sexes' consumption of adult content was found to be getting closer.
