Will Booth win back Brennan's trust in Bones season 10 episode 21? Fox

Bones season 10 returns with its pre-finale episode tonight, 4 June at 8pm on FOX.

Episode 21 is titled The Life In The Light, where Booth will try to regain Brennan's trust.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

When the remains of an ex-con and biker gang member-turned-yoga instructor is found in the aftermath of a forest fire, the team must navigate both worlds from the victim's past to find the killer. Meanwhile, Booth continues working hard to beat his gambling addiction and regain Brennan's trust, and Angela and Hodgins make a big decision that will impact their future at the Jeffersonian

Meanwhile, executive producer of the show Stephen Nathan has teased that the current challenges posed to Booth and Brennan is a "necessary plot device".

"We certainly don't want [the show] to be predictable all the time," Nathan told TVLine. "[The fans would] get bored, and they'd just go watch another show."

"It's incumbent upon us to shake it up," he explained. "We started to do that at the end of Season 10, and it'll continue into Season 11."

Moreover, tensions between Booth and Brennan have escalated after Brennan go to know of Booth's new gambling addiction, when his bookie pays a visit to the house to collect some debts in episode 19.

Fans have also expressed unhappiness over the current arc as they love the chemistry between Booth and Brennan, but according to Nathan: "I'd say I would be very disappointed if people were not upset. These are two characters that you've come to love. You have expectations of people that are in your life."

He further stressed, "You don't expect them to do this, and so you get upset. But you know what? People usually surprise us, and they do things often that we think they're better than... And that goes for Brennan, too. Her reaction was very severe. But that's what happens."

On the other hand, Angela and Hodgins would be moving to Paris, and would leave the team behind in the upcoming episode.

"What has been historically all talk between them about this Paris trip becomes much more concrete. It's a very real choice now. Money has been exchanged," the executive producer said.

"They're going. That's what they're doing. Again, it's our expectations [with] our characters that get us into trouble, because they don't always behave as we expect them to," he added.

The latest promo shows Brennan's return home to find Booth and Christine playing a hugging game. Booth plays Hug Monster with Christine, as the two spend some quality father-daughter time together, as Bones is busy with her work.

However, when Christine begs her mom saying that "Can't daddy stay? Please", all the fun turns emotional.

Now what remains to be seen is whether Booth regains Brennan's trust in episode 21.
