Zendaya claims store clerk refused to serve her and threw her wallet due to her 'skin tone'
'The lady that was helping us. I don't think she was a fan of our skin tone,' the 20-year-old actress reportedly said on Snapchat.
Zendaya is said to have taken to social media to claim she was refused service at a grocery store because of her "skin tone". The Spider-Man: Homecoming actress has also said that the store clerk threw her wallet and told her she "can't afford this".
The 20-year-old actress has reportedly shared a series of videos on Snapchat, wherein she has explained about the horrible experience she had to undergo, along with her friend, at a grocery store on 6 September.
"So we just got out of this Vons. Now I am trying to buy a lot of gift cards. There are certain limits or whatever so you can only by so much. But the lady that was helping us. I don't think she was a fan of our skin tone," the 20-year-old actress reportedly said on Snapchat. (via The Daily Mail)
"She then threw my wallet. I can't make this up! This is what we deal with! She literally threw my wallet and she was like 'You can't afford this.' It was $400! Long story short. There is so much progress to be done in our world. It wasn't like a throw it was like a toss with my cards still loose...my card fell on the scanner and she began helping other customers. You know what, it's all love," Zendaya added.
In the end, Zendaya got her gift cards and gave a shout-out to the store manager for his assistance. "Yo shout out the manager for coming and helping — I got my gift cards!" she said.
In 2015, Zendaya was involved in a controversy after Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic attacked the actress saying she smelled of weed because she was wearing her hair in dreadlocks at the Academy Awards.
''I feel like she smells like patchouli oil... or maybe weed," Rancic had said. As soon as Rancic said that, Zendaya accused the anchor of being "ignorant, disrespectful and outrageously offensive".
