Overview
City come into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona in the last-16 first leg of the Champions League clash at the Etihad. The hosts were reduced to 10 men after Martin Demichelis was sent off in the second half for bringing down Lionel Messi and the forward made no mistake in converting the resulting penalty. Daniel Alves then added a second in the final few minutes to double his side's lead.
In their previous Premier League fixture, Manuel Pellegrini's side played out a goalless draw against Norwich City at Carrow Road. City have played one game fewer than their title rivals as their league fixture against Sunderland was postponed due to bad weather. They currently sit third with 54 points from 25 matches, three points behind leaders Chelsea, who play Everton earlier on Saturday.
Stoke are unbeaten in their last three matches in the league with their last fixture against Swansea City at the Britannia Stadium ending in a 1-1 draw. Peter Crouch's goal gave the Potters the lead in the first-half but Chico Flores netted the equaliser for the away side after half-time to ensure both sides take a point on the night.
Mark Hughes's side are currently striving to move up the table and sit 14th with 27 points, separated from the relegation zone just by three points having played 26 matches.
What the Managers Say
Manuel Pellegrini: "I think it's very important to continue trying to do what we can to arrive to the top of the table. The only way to continue is to win against Stoke here at home and for that, we must play a very good game. I expect that we are going to play against a difficult team tomorrow. It's a good team with good players."
Mark Hughes: "You have to go there with real belief and a real determination to make things happen, and get something out of the game. If we can do that, then we have a chance. Not many teams have gone there and taken anything out of them game so it isn't going to be easy, but as I said we will go there in good spirits and we are ready to give it a go."
