Prince Harry: We did shoot to kill Afghan rebels
Prince Harry and the MOD are both in the news today. Prince Harry a serving helicopter pilot spoke out confirming he killed Afghan insurgents during his most recent tour as a helicopter pilot.
"Yes, we fire when we have to. Take a life to save a life. But essentially, you know, we're more of a deterrent than anything else."
He then went on to say that his brother Prince William could potentially fly one of the other Chinooks on a mission. He said
"I think there is a bit of jealousy. Not just the fact that I get to fly this, but obviously he'd love to be out here. I don't see why, to be honest, I don't see why he couldn't. His job out here would be flying the IIT or whatever. Doing Chinook missions, just the same as us. No one knows he is in the cockpit. Yes, you get shot at, but, you know, if the guys are being....if the guys who are doing the same job as us are being shot at on the ground, I don't think there is anything wrong with us being shot at as well. People back home might have issues with that but we're not special, the guys who are out there are, simple as that."
And as Prince Harry says the fighting is on-going in Afghanistan. the MOD have announced today they are making drastic job cuts in their third round of Army redundancies. About 5,000 job losses are expected, as part of cuts already announced by the government to reduce Army numbers from 102,000 to 82,000 by 2017 to help plug a £38bn hole in the defence budget.
