American Music Awards 2015 highlights: Justin Bieber makes it rain, Celine Dion tributes Paris
From Jennifer Lopez's multiple outfit changes to Justin Bieber making it rain on stage, the American Music Awards 2015 was far from boring. Held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on 22 November, the night featured performances from the hottest acts in pop and ended with One Direction winning the top award.
With J.Lo serving as host throughout the evening, the AMAs crowned Taylor Swift the winner of three awards including favourite pop/rock album for 1989 and song of the year for Blank Space. 1D, consisting of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, went home with the most prestigious accolade after being named artist of the year. However, there was plenty more exciting action taking place, so IBTimes UK has rounded up the best moments...
Justin Bieber performs in the rain
The 21-year-old brought the house when he closed the show with a medley of his recent hit songs. Beginning with a short acoustic version of his number one single What Do You Mean?, Bieber then livened up with Where Are U Now, his dance smash with Skrillex and Diplo. The Canadian star later turned on the water works for a very wet performance of Sorry.
Celine Dion sings emotional tribute to Paris
In the midst of all the fun and frolics, Dion, 47, gave the audience a reminder of the Paris attacks, which claimed the lives of 130 people on 13 November. Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto introduced Dion's performance with a touching speech explaining how his rock band, 30 Seconds To Mars, once put on an impromptu show at the Bataclan venue where many people died. Dion then arrived on stage to perform a rendition of Edith Piaf's Hymne A L'Amour in French.
Nicki Minaj rolls eyes and storms off stage
The Anaconda rapper had just won the favourite rap/hip hop album for The Pinkprint but something had annoyed Minaj by the end of her acceptance speech. The 32-year-old appeared to fake a yawn before rolling her eyes and walking off stage with her award, reportedly after producers cut off her speech.
Just Jennifer Lopez
It was a full-on show from the start with J.Lo opening the awards with her 1999 single Waiting For Tonight before launching into an incredible 10-minute medley of modern hits including Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars's Uptown Funk, Taylor Swift's Bad Blood and Drake's Hotline Bling. The American Idol judge also stunned in no fewer than 10 outfits, which included a beautiful sheer lace Zuhair Murad gown and a multicoloured bodysuit.
Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor kiss
They may have been singing Marvin Gaye but nobody expected Puth and Trainor to take the legendary singer's line "let's get it on", literally. The collaborators ended their performance with a passionate kiss much to the surprise of the audience. Accepting his award after the surprising moment, Luke Bryan joked: "Charlie and Meghan getting it on over there smooching. It rolled after the commercial break too." Reps for the singers told E! News that they are friends and the kiss was planned but it is not stopping the romance rumours.
