Android L to have Version Number 4.5, Suggests Latest Chrome Beta
While Google did not detail about the version number for its next major release of Android operating system, new disclosure hints that it could be Android 4.5.
Following Google's announcement of Android L Developer Preview at the I/O 2014 developer conference, there have been several speculations about what the L in 'Android L' stands for and what will be the version number for it.
The Google Chrome team has recently announced the beta release of Chrome 37 for Android. The Chrome v37.0.2062.39 is available via Google Play Store. The significance of this new version is that it brings a number of features, including Material Design updates, simplified sign-in, bug fixes and performance improvements.
Android Soul now reports the Chrome Beta 37 on an Android L running device shows the Android version under the setting page as Android 4.4.99, Build/LPV79. Whereas the previous Chrome version showed it as Android 4.3.0.
Besides, the stable Chrome build for Android shows Android 4.3.0 as version of Android L Developer Preview.
The Android 4.4.99 version suggests the next Android version to be 4.5 but not Android 5.0 rumoured earlier. Also, the .99 figure makes sense for the current Developer Preview build of Android L. We will get to know more details once Google releases the Android L update for its Nexus lineups in this fall.
