Apple Music now available on Sonos systems worldwide

Apple Music is coming to Sonos speaker systems, with worldwide compatibility being rolled out from today (10 February). The announcement follows a period of beta testing that began in mid-December, during which time compatibility has been trialled by "hundreds of thousands" of customers, according to Sonos.

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services, said: "The feedback from Apple Music members on Sonos during the beta period has been great. Sonos plus Apple Music provides an amazing listening experience at home – and we're excited to offer it to all Sonos customers."

To get things running, users need to go to the "Add Music Services" option within the Sonos controller app, which is available on Android and iOS devices in addition to Windows PCs and Macs. From there, users can log in through their Apple Music account and gain streaming access to the Apple Music catalogue, in addition to using the For You, New, Radio, and My Music features.

A new music station curated especially for Sonos will also be launched on Apple Music as part of the partnership, Sonos revealed. John MacFarlane, the company's chief executive officer, said: "This partnership has been an excellent example of two companies that truly care about music coming together to deliver a great listening experience. Working with Apple gives us the opportunity to share Apple Music throughout people's homes in a way that's easy, intuitive and sounds great."

Rival music services like Spotify, Deezer, Google Play Music, Pandora and TuneIn have been available through Sonos systems for some time. With that being the case, this week's announcement will no doubt come as good news to Apple Music's rapidly-growing subscriber base, which surpassed the 10 million mark within six months of launch.
