Ashes 2013: Mitchell Johnson's Seven-Wicket Haul Piles Pressure on England

Mitchell Johnson decimated an England line-up that could manage a mere 172 runs in the first innings of the second Ashes Test, with the left-handed bowler grabbing 7 wickets.

Australia raced to a comfortable lead of 530 runs as David Warner remained unbeaten on 82. Michael Clarke's side have posted 132/3 in 39 overs of their second innings as they wound up play on the third day of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval.

England began the day at 35/1 without Alastair Cook. Michael Carberry (20) and Joe Root (9) were expected to fire as they were looking to chase the mammoth 570 scored in the first innings by Australia.

It looked well for England as Carberry and Root scored three boundaries off Johnson and Nathan Lyon. However, Root's sweep off the right-arm spinner's last ball in the 30<sup>th over landed sweetly in the hands of Chris Rogers in deep square leg.

Kevin Pieteresen stepped on to the pitch for the visitors but could only manage four runs before Peter Siddle sent him back to the pavilion with England at 66/3. Ian Bell helped Carberry reach his first half-century in Tests.

The duo notched up 45 runs as they sought to rescue England's blushes. Watson and Ryan Harris pulled off five straight maiden overs before breaking their partnership.

England were 111/4 and could only manage to score 61 runs more in their innings. Bell scored 72 runs of his own as he couldn't prevent Johnson sending all the remaining six batsmen for a total of just 10 runs.

Australia led by 398 as players went for the tea break. Clarke could have sent England back in to batting but opted to play the second innings instead. He probably hopes to add on to the visitor's misery.

Warner and Steven Smith (23) will begin the fourth day on a high. Clarke will be hoping to set up an impossible total for England and bat them out of the game.
