Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann would consider Premier League transfer
Griezmann has revealed Manchester United legend David Beckham was his idol.
Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has admitted that he would consider a move to the Premier League after revealing Manchester United legend David Bekchma was his idol. The France international has been in fine form for both club and country in recent times.
He was linked with both the Red Devils and Chelsea earlier in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun. The 25-year-old signed a new deal with the Spanish capital club earlier in June which will keep him at Vicente Calderon until 2021. Griezmann has a €100m (£86m, $112.7m) release clause in his contract, as reported by AS.
"Yes, why not? If I am out of contract with Atlético I would ask myself that question," Griezmann told The Guardian. "I liked him [Beckham] a lot. He was my idol. That's why I wear a long-sleeved jersey and wear the No7."
The Frenchman will not leave his current employers this summer as he has set his sights on winning the Champions League. Jose Mourinho's side are in the Europa League, while the west London club are out of the European competition for this season.
"Champions League. Without hesitation," the Atletico star said, when asked if he wants to win the La Liga or the Champions League this term.
"Because I love it. I watch almost all the games when I can - quarter-finals, semi‑finals, final. It's close to the heart of everyone here, the coach and the players.
"I watched it since I was small. I dreamed of playing in it. I always had a frisson when I heard the Champions League music. To play in that competition, to score a goal in it, is something special for me."
Atletico lost their second Champions League final in three years and on both occasions, they suffered defeat at the hands of local rivals Real Madrid. Griezmann's disappointment continued when he lost the Euro 2016 with France as they lost to Portugal in the final in Paris.
