Overview

Australia suffered defeat in their first Super 10 fixture against Pakistan. George Bailey won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision to put Pakistan to bat did not go well for the Australians.

Mohammad Hafeez's side posted a huge total of 191 runs for the loss of five wickets. Umar Akmal was the top scorer for Pakistan with 94 runs from 54 deliveries, which included four sixes and nine boundaries.

In reply, Australia lost hard-hitting batsman and opener David Warner as well as all-rounder Shane Watson cheaply as the two managed to add only four runs each to the overall tally.

Glen Maxwell and Aaron Finch tried to pull their side over the victory line, but finally fell short of 16 runs. The rest of the batsmen failed to reach double figures, which led to a collapse down the order.

Meanwhile, West Indies registered a 73-run victory over hosts Bangladesh in their second Group 2 fixture. Darren Sammy's men posted a total of 171 runs for the loss of seven wickets from their 20 overs.

Bangladesh batsmen failed to fire from the beginning of their run chase as they were bowled out for 98 runs. Samuel Badree was the star bowler as he finished the match with figures of 4-15 from his quota of four overs.

Australia will be hoping to find a win in the tie against Sammy's side as they are aware that a defeat on Friday will dent their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage of the tournament.

Bailey would be relying on his top order to fire against the West Indies. Meanwhile, an impressive performance from spinner Badree will help West Indies put Australia on the defensive.
