Bill Cosby sex allegations: Wife defends comedian, claiming accusers 'consented' to drugs and sex
Scandal embattled comedian Bill Cosby has at least one person in his corner: his wife, Camille Cosby. The NY Post reported the actor's wife acknowledges her husband is a cheater, but refuses to admit he is a rapist.
Despite the revelation that Cosby admitted during a deposition that he intended to give women quaaludes before having sex with them, his wife believes his accusers consented to both the drugs and the sex.
"Camille still doesn't believe that Bill provided drugs and had sex with women without their consent," a source employed by the Cosby family told the NY Post. "She's well aware of his cheating, but she doesn't believe that her husband is a rapist."
Another source close to the Cosbys added that Camille Cosby is "a proud, dignified but stubborn woman. You can say that she's standing by her husband, but really, the more people stand against him, the most she perceives it as an affront to her and all that she's done to make him a star".
The 71-year-old is her 78-year-old husband's business manager, the Post reported. In a crisis meeting last week with advisers, she allegedly demanded his lawyers and public relations team "get back out in front of this".
"I created him, I knew what I was getting and we'll fix this," she reportedly told the group at the couple's Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts home on 7 July.
A business source told the Post Camille said, "They are making him out to be such a bad guy, a monster. She added that some of their former supporters, including actress Jill Scott and comedian Jimmy Walker, are "jumping ship".
The Los Angeles Police Department announced on 10 July that it would open a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by Cosby, including those with expired statute of limitations.
