A teenager and her partner have been charged with the murder of her baby brother.

Fourteen month-old Santino Balaz died at Birmingham Children's Hospital on January 1, 2015, after suffering extensive injuries and fractures to his body.

Tereza Lackova, 19, and Marek Holub, 27, both of Brighton Road, Balsall Heath have been charged with his murder and are due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates on Tuesday (6 January).

Both were looking after him at their Balsall Heath home.

Detective Inspector Justin Spanner from Force CID, who is investigating the death said: "We are awaiting further tests following a post mortem. Santino was found to have extensive injuries and fractures to several areas of his body.

"West Midlands Police is currently liaising with colleagues in the Czech Republic to trace Santino's mother, who is believed to have returned home in September last year."
