Not wanting to be outdone by Argos and Amazon, Tesco has also decided to enter the Black Friday fray early in 2016, kicking off its price-slashing sales bonanza from Monday (21 November). The "every little helps" supermarket is offering cut prices on everything from cameras to smartphones this year, with deals expected to end on 1 December.

Anyone hoping to grab a bargain in store will be sorely disappointed as Tesco's Black Friday sale is an online-only affair via its Tesco Direct website. "Black Friday last year was Tesco's most successful and saw the busiest ever day for Tesco Direct in terms of sales," a company spokesman said. "Tesco's bestselling ranges were TVs, tablets, gaming consoles and small domestic appliances."
