Bobbi Kristina Brown: Jerod Brown opens up about Bobbi Kristina's dream of making Whitney Houston proud
Bobbi Kristina Brown's cousin Jerod Brown has opened up about the 22-year-old's life and her dream of making her mother Whitney Houston proud.
In a touching interview with the Sunday Mirror, he revealed that just 72 hours before she was found unresponsive in the bath tub of her Georgia home, Bobbi Kristina was "full of life" and excited about the future.
Describing her state of mind he said she was in a good place, focusing on her own music career and was motivated by her desire to honour her mother's memory.
"She wanted to release her first single, to get on with her own music projects for her mum," he explained. "Bobbi's mum was her guardian angel, and she wanted to make her proud. That was her mission."
Jerod, who is Bobby Brown's nephew, added that Bobbi Kristina had demonstrated her commitment to her professional aspirations, cutting down on cigarettes in an effort to preserve her voice, and she was planning to move to Los Angeles in order to launch her music career.
However, he revealed the aspiring singer's pain at the premature loss of her mother was ever-present and Whitney was never far from her thoughts.
"She was very depressed. She would call me often and say she was dealing with her mum. She would say: 'She's heavy on my heart.' "
He reveals that Bobbi Kristina was suicidal at times and he would "talk her down from it".
In an earlier interview with E!, Bobbi Kristina's friend Alex Reid also confirmed that the reality TV star was picking up the pieces of her life and had expressed a desire to make a name for herself as a singer, just like her mother.
Reid said: "She wanted to continue the legacy of her mom. She had spent the past year writing and singing new songs and would often make little videos of herself happily singing as she sat around her swimming pool in the afternoon. She was really keen to be known not just as Whitney Houston's daughter but also as herself. She wanted to make her mother proud."
The aspiring singer's circumstance tragically echoes the death of her mother. The I Will Always Love You singer passed away on the eve of the 2012 Grammys after she was found unresponsive in a bath in a Beverley Hills hotel. A coroner later concluded her death was a result of accidental drowning, though heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors in her death.
Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive on 31 January 2015, shortly before the third anniversary of her mother Whitney Houston's death. She has been in a medically induced coma for the last six months. On 25 June, she was moved to the Peachtree Christian Hospice near Atlanta having spent two months at Georgia's Emory University Hospital and a further 10 weeks at the DeKalb Medical facility.
"Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown's condition has continued to deteriorate," her aunt Pat Houston said in a statement. "We thank everyone for their support and prayers. She is in God's hands now."
Jerod revealed that his cousin is now lying in her hospice bed with a framed picture of her 'guardian angel' her mother, Whitney Houston, by her side.
