'Boom': James Comey throws 'epic' shade at Trump after Flynn guilty plea with Bible verse on Instagram
Comey, who was fired by Trump, has often taken to social media to weigh in on developments in the Russia probe.
Former FBI director James Comey once again seems to be trolling President Donald Trump with a cryptic message after Michael Flynn's guilty plea. On Friday (1 December), former national security adviser pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and announced a plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller's team of prosecutors. He faces up to five years in prison over the charge.
Mueller is currently investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and alleged collusion between Trump's campaign team and the Kremlin. Moscow has dismissed the allegations as "baseless" while Trump has frequently slammed the ongoing probes as a "witch-hunt" and a "phony Democrat excuse for losing the election".
Comey, who was the head of the FBI from 2013 to May 2017 before he was fired by Trump, has often taken to social media to weigh in on developments in the investigation by throwing shade at the president with cryptic quotes about truth and justice.
In his maiden post on Instagram, Comey posted a photo of babbling water along with a Bible verse about justice.
"'But justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream' Amos 5:24", Comey posted on Twitter and Instagram.
Although the former FBI head did not mention Flynn, Trump or the investigation directly, many took the post as yet another subtle message to the president. When Mueller filed the first charges in the investigation in October, Comey tweeted a quote about democracy and justice by American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr.
"Man's capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man's inclination to injustice makes democracy necessary," Comey tweeted at the time. Niebuhr also happens to be the not-so-secret pseudonym that Comey used on Twitter until he finally changed his handle to @Comey.
After Trump's attack on CNN earlier this month, he tweeted a quote by Thomas Jefferson on freedom of the press.
Naturally, the internet went nuts over Comey's latest subtweet.
"Well played sir! Well played," one person wrote while another called his Instagram photo the "best first post ever."
"This from former FBI Director James @Comey, fired by Trump for refusing to shield Flynn from justice per Trump's corrupt urging, is worth posting on every refrigerator in America," another person tweeted.
"Revenge is a dish that is best served Comey," Stephen Colbert tweeted.
