Stephen King's Carrie Moment: Video of 'Dead Man' Rising from Grave in Brazil
Woman in Sao Paulo cemetery scared to death when hand shoots out of grave
A woman in Brazil was terrified when what seemed to be the living dead rose from a grave in a Sao Paulo cemetery.
The woman, who has not been named, was visiting a family tomb in the suburb of Ferraz de Vasconcelos when she heard faint groaning noises coming from a nearby grave.
According to the woman, the earth suddenly moved on the grave mound and a hand shot out from the ground in a scene reminiscent of the Stephen King horror movie Carrie. The hand was shortly followed by a man's head, the MailOnline claimed.
"I was terrified to see a man, who I thought was dead, trying to get out of the grave," she said. "He had his head and hands out and was moving his arms around, trying to get out."
She ran away screaming and called the police who were sceptical of her claim.
"They kept questioning me asking: 'Are you serious. This is a joke isn't it'."
She returned to the cemetery office to ask for help and got a better reception, she added.
A film posted on LiveLeak shows rescuers digging the man from the shallow grave. The film shows his seemingly lifeless body; his legs remain trapped beneath the earth.
He was found to be still breathing and was transported to hospital where a source told Brazil's Record TV that he was "coming back to life".
The man, who has not been named, used to work for city hall, police said. They believe he was attacked and badly beaten, then taken to the cemetery and buried alive in an empty grave. They believe that more than one person was involved in the assault.
After regaining consciousness, he tried to dig himself out which was when the woman saw him emerging from the ground.
