Breel Embolo to Manchester United: Old Trafford outfit 'lead the queue' for Basel teenager
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay as much as €35m (£27.6m, $39m) to sign Breel Embolo from Basel. The 19-year-old forward is considered to be one of the most exciting prospects in European football and is apparently attracting interest from Old Trafford, as well as cash-rich German side RB Leipzig.
New United boss Jose Mourinho is currently overhauling his much-maligned squad and has reportedly identified Embolo as a player he wishes to sign. The Premier League giants are understood to be offering a €5m a year salary to secure the deal.
Embolo is also being chased by Wolfsburg and Juventus, while Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring his progress – but it is United who are currently at the front of the queue, according to Bild.
The pacey youngster is playing for Switzerland at the European Championship and a series of impressive showings during the remainder of the tournament could see his value rise even further.
Although Leipzig are eager to sign Embolo, they accept they cannot compete with United's financial muscle. The Bundesliga club, unlike United, are reportedly not prepared to spend more than €20m on Embolo.
