British Driver Dies In Crash At Classic Car Rally In Siberia
A British woman taking part in vintage 'Peking to Paris' rally died in a car crash on Wednesday (June 12) colliding with Russian driver on the Siberian highway.
Emma Wilkinson, 46, British mother of two from Brigstock, Northamptonshire, was killed in an accident after her 1970 Chevrolet C 10 crashed with Volkswagen Polo some 130 miles east of Siberian city of Tyumen.
A Russian man driving the Volkswagen and a small child also died in the crash.
Local police said the Volkswagen driver may have fallen asleep on the road causing his car cross into wrong lane.
Wilkinson's co-driver, Peter Davies, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, said he tried to help her but she died instantly after the collision.
The Mother of the three-month-old child riding in the other vehicle was badly injured and taken to the hospital, regional police said.
The Peking to Paris Motor Challenge website called Emma Wilkinson "a fun loving, lively and popular member of the rally", saying her partner was in shock after the accident.
