BFC and CFDA Confirm Fashion Week Dates for Coming Two Years

Following the massive furor over the fashion week dates during the early part of 2012, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and the British Fashion Council (BFC) have decided to end the fashion feud by releasing the dates for the next two years.

The schedule clash between the major fashion councils were over the spring/summer 2013 season and involved Milan and Paris fashion weeks as well.

"Both the BFC and CFDA are confident that this confirmation will ensure the smooth running of both fashion weeks and allow for designer brands and businesses in all four fashion capitals - New York, London, Milan and Paris - to successfully plan for the long term," the British Fashion Council said in a statement.

The scheduling imbroglio started earlier following an announcement by the Milan fashion Council that their 2012 event would be rescheduled to overlap with the New York and London Fashion Weeks. The decision sparked protests from fashion powerhouses and several international fashion editors, who announced they would boycott the event.

In response, Diane von Furstenberg, President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, announced that the council would not budge from plans to start the US Fashion Week on the second Thursday of September.

In December, the conflict among the councils of fashion capitals in New York, London and Milan intensified after Paris Fashion Week organisers rejected US designers' new proposal to start its September 2012 shows a day later. The latter turned down the request, stating that a change in the dates would delay retail orders, making for less time to organise deliveries.

However, both the BFC and the CFDA ultimately gave their consent to change their 2012 show dates.

As per the new agreement, the dates for the upcoming fashion weeks will be:

Spring/Summer 2013

New York Fashion Week 6th - 13th September 2012

London Fashion Week 14th - 18th September 2012

Autumn/Winter 2013-14

New York Fashion Week 7th - 14th February 2013

London Fashion Week 15th - 19th February 2013

Spring/Summer 2014

New York Fashion Week 5th - 12th September 2013

London Fashion Week 13th - 17th September 2013

Autumn/Winter 2014-15
