Chappell Roan Banned from Todo Mundo no Rio Music Festival After 'Aggressive' Encounter With Jude Law's Daughter
Rio Mayor bans Chappell Roan from Todo Mundo no Rio festival following incident with minor

Singer-songwriter Chappell Roan has been indefinitely barred from one of Brazil's most prominent music stages following an alleged confrontation with the young daughter of actor Jude Law.
Rio Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere announced on social media that the singer behind 'Good Luck, Babe!' will never be able to perform at the Todo Mundo no Rio festival under his administration.
Rio Mayor Bans Chappell Roan from Music Festival
This ban marks a significant setback for the artist's international touring schedule as she faces growing scrutiny over her public conduct.
Rio de Janeiro's Mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, took to social media to announce that the American singer is banned from Rio's annual music festival following reports of an 'aggressive' encounter with footballer Jorginho Frello's 11-year-old stepdaughter Ada. Ada is Jude Law's biological daughter with his former partner, Catherine Harding.
'I mean that as long as I'm in charge of our city — this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio!' Cavaliere wrote on X.
The mayor compared Roan to Shakira, saying the Colombian singer would never have behaved as Roan allegedly did. He also invited Jorginho's daughter to be 'the guest of honor from the organization in May.'
Todo Mundo no Rio is a free international music festival held on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The annual event, established in 2024 by the city government, draws millions of spectators each year. Shakira will headline this year's festival. Last year, Lady Gaga's free performance attracted 2.5 million attendees, surpassing Madonna's 1.6 million in 2024 — the grand finale of her 'The Celebration Tour.'

Social Media Divided Over Roan's Alleged Conduct
The incident has sparked significant debate across digital platforms, with fans and critics divided over the ethics of celebrity boundaries. Some users on X condemned Roan's alleged behaviour, suggesting her recent rise to fame had led to an inflated sense of self-importance. One viral post argued there is no excuse for making a child cry regardless of the circumstances. Meanwhile, others defended Roan on the basis that, in her statement, she said she was unaware of the incident and had not directed any security personnel to approach the family.
'I think it's premature to place the blame on the artist. It was the security guard who acted rudely, and that absolutely does not reflect the artist's behavior,' one user commented. Despite the defence from some supporters, public sentiment in Brazil has remained largely negative, with many backing the mayor's decision.

Chappell Roan's Statement
In response to the backlash, Roan addressed the allegations through a formal statement, denying any personal animosity toward the child. 'I do not hate children,' she said, adding that the security official who reportedly approached Ada and Harding was not part of her personal team. 'I did NOT ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. ... They did not come up to me,' she said.
Harding responded by saying she hoped Roan was telling the truth, as her family had travelled to São Paulo specifically to watch Roan perform as a birthday treat for her daughter, a show they ultimately did not attend following the incident.
