Chelsea striker Diego Costa is 'like crazy' to return to Atletico Madrid after failing to adapt to London life
Chelsea striker Diego Costa is "like crazy" to return to Atletico Madrid this summer and is so desperate to see the move happen that he has already contacted the officials from the Vicente Calderón to tell them he is ready to reduce his salary, reports in Spain claim.
The Spanish international striker moved to Stamford Bridge in summer 2014 for around £32m after leading his side to the La Liga title, beating Barcelona and Real Madrid, with 27 goals in 35 appearances.
And even though he has struggled with hamstring problems throughout the season, Costa has managed to replicate his clinical skills in his debut season in West London, scoring 20 goals in just 26 Premier League appearances.
But Marca claims that the striker is not happy in London and is ready to go back to his former side this summer.
The Spanish newspaper claim that Costa enjoys an excellent relationship with Jose Mourinho and as well with some of his teammates, like Filipe Luis or Cesc Fabregas, but he has failed to adapt to London due to the weather, the food and the language.
AS already reported last week that former Atletico trio Thibaut Courtois, Luis and Costa all miss the Madrid life too much and now Marca adds that Costa has indeed begun the contact over returning to Atletico Madrid.
Luis has indeed been tipped to move back to Diego Simeone's side in recent months, while Marca claims that Costa is also "like crazy" to make the same move and has even called Atletico Madrid officials to tell them he is ready to accept a pay-cut to do it – as he is currently earning the double the salary that he used to get with the La Liga giants.
Diego Simeone would welcome him back at the Calderón and has already spoken with the player to convince him to make the move.
However, the reports add that the deal will not be easy as Mourinho is not likely to negotiate Costa's departure at any price because he wants him to remain as his number nine next season.
